Yeah, it's been done. Not that hard to do, from what I understand, and you want more beef and a modern engine for a cheap price. Yeah, some like to do the 4.6 swap but they want way too damn much for those motors and I don't consider early 4.6's an upgrade. Hell if you want something different, and want to be hated, you could put in a Supra TT motor or even the skyline engine. I was lookng on the net and you can buy a full 2JZ series motor which comes with the engine, trans, ECU, turbo's, accesories for about $3K. But, I woud stick to something with more cylinders and some displacment.
you're right! ta-da! http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=635318 http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=656581 i'm on the fence about the swap to tell ya the truth.
I couldnt see the pics of the link? Is this a alumn head ls1? Whats the big deal about it runnin mid 12's? A 351 will run that also with the same work. peace john
ill add a lil to modular2v reply the whole LS1 cars have aluminum block, head, driveshaft, but they did the stupidest thing after the DS a 7.5" rear end The ls1 firebire's/TA's/camaro's are real high 12 sec cars stock with a good drive. my buddy did a 12.99 @108.98 and layed 331/346with a slp lid and powershot air filter. now with h/c 11.7@122 w/ a 1.9 60' on worn nitto 555R's and layed 446/411 and 550/604 with 125shot but no time cause when he hit the NOS in 2 he blew the rear and he is thinking of a ford 9" needless to say a stock LS1 cars a quick and a modded LS1 car is stupid fast BUT IF IN A FORD THE DIZZY BELONGS IN THE FRONT!!!!!!
Let's see ya find a bone stock fuel injected 351 that will run mid 12s on street tires and get 30mpg.
No kidding, the last "modern" 351's were setup for vans and trucks and thier blocks arn't any stronger than the 302. LS1's can be bought rather cheap. For the price, you can pick up a whole drivetrain for not a bad price, and the t-56 alone makes it real tempting.
No kidding. Watch out for the brand loyal. Follow them as they boldly move thier factories where no factory has ever gone before!!! Nobody's going to care about what engine you have under the hood when your getting pulled by the halfbreed.
Go over to LS1tech and search under Conversions & Hybrids there's quite a few ppl. that have swapped an LS1 into a stang. When i searched i found most of the parts that are needed and everything. When the ol' 5.0 blows up i do believe i will be swapping in an LS1. You can get a motor and tranny at a fair price and everything else really isn't that expensive. A stalled cammed sprayed LS1 fox
Funny, I was looking for the same thread the other day. I have been thinking about getting another 5.0 car to play with before long (one to keep, not to part out! although I want more to part out also ) This area is VERY pro LS1 and my buddy's have a shop, one is the GM/LS1 Tuner guru, one is the Ford guy heh. I would be in good hands tuning wise. What I like about the swap is everybody says the LS1 sits lower and further back, would make a better handling car. You can find LS1's complete for $1800 if you look around, sometimes less, a T56 can be had for $1000 or so, sometimes you can find a deal on a LS1 and T56 pullout. If I had infinite money, Dart Block SBF would be the way to go but I want something that can make 500+ again and NOT SPLIT THE FUGGIN BLOCK without costing that much. Figure you can sell the 5.0, harness, T5, computer etc to offset the cost. What sucks is I havent seen an LS1 Mustang with working AC yet and the T56 setup seems like a **** to do because of the hydraulic clutch but me and a friend have an idea for that. All the boltons and you are making 350-360, spray it with a 150 and have 500+, then watch it CHUG FUGGIN OIL and make alot of ticking nosies that are scarey, so you put some pistons and rod bolts in it, good rings and bearings, cam, 200 shot, there is 600+. Or keep the 5.0 and do a turbo kit, but then you need a transmission, hmmmm. I keep going back and fourth. If going with a boosted setup wanting to make BIG power and a Dart Block and badass rotating assembley doesnt bother you, might as well stick with the Ford. If wanting a decent n/a setup with nitrous for easy power, the LS1 is nice and saves alot of weight even with the bigger T56 transmission. Hell you could run a TKO, I know a guy that did with his LS1 S-10. My big thing is I have had F-Bodys, grew up around them, I HATE 82-02 F-Bodys and will NOT own another one (unless it's wrecked or blown up to be parted out!). There is no way to get an LS1 setup in a cheap vehicle really, you can do a Silverado but then it weighs alot, you can get a GTO but they arent really cheap, F-Body......no thanks, C5, $15000 is as cheap as they get. Plus I love the Fox Body looks and the way they drive, it just makes sense in a way.
