Which head and cam combo for 95 cobra?

    I am looking for a good head and cam combo for a non-daily driver mostly street use 95 cobra. I would prefer to use the stock gt40 intake. I want a cam that will work with the J4J1 comp and maintains a good idle. I was thinking of either the steeda #19 cam or frpp E303. Which heads will work with these nicely and make at least around 300rwhp? Any suggestions appreciated.

    Holley has some REALLY nice heads and cams to work with them. Stay away from the E303 cam, it will make more power than stock, but you really need a good split duration cam, or really see the potential. Edelbrock , also, does a good job of putting heads and cams together that work well together. And as far as using the stock intake, you will need to have a little work done on it to get the best results.

    Thanks. I heard you need at least 114 lobe separation for 94-95 mustangs computers to keep them running right and not stalling out. Some people with 94-95's can get away without this I guess. The only reason I want to keep the stock intake is because it's the first thing you see when you open the hood. It may sound dumb but I would like to keep that original, plus I hear they're good up to 350 flywheel hp and that's around what I'm looking to make. I will definately get it ported if I decide to do the heads and cam. Did you say holley makes good heads and cam for my gt40 intake? Do they have any cams that will work with my computer? I would just get it dyno tuned and forget about the issue with the comp, but that's another $500 plus, a heck of a lot of money to spend at once, and I'm no Bill Gates Thanks

    A good cam to use with the stock GT40 heads (and other heads) is the Crane 2031, made for the 93-95 cobras. Good heads are AFR 165 or 185 (probly will have to fly cut the pistons).

    I like the Holley heads better, because of the improvements that where made on them. They have an 18 degree valve angle, where all the other ford heads have 20 degree. They also flow really well. Lots of people have been using the AFR stuff after some of the bolt on comparo's. The AFR heads usually have smaller combustion chambers than most of the other heads, so they will usually boost compression.

    For what your looking for, ported intake, AFR 185s and the right cam/tune combo would be perfect. Would easily get you where you want to be and then some with what you already have. After the upgrade, do it right and have it dyno tuned for sure.

    Trial and error for me....I had an 89 Saleen...

    I first went ported GT40P's w/ E cam....made around 250 rwhp.

    Then TFS TW's with the E cam....285 rwhp....

    TFS TW's with the TFS stage 2 cam (same as the crane 2432)

    306 rwhp with a solid tune....I also added a 70 mm TB.

    Thanks a lot for the feedback guys it's a big help. I plan on getting a dyno tune for optimal performance as soon as I can after the cam and heads install. I try to do as much as I can on my own with my car and have learned a lot from doing things myself. The only thing I didn't do was my gears and subframes. But installing heads and cam is too serious for me to do on my own at this point. To pay someone for installation plus porting my intake is just a lot of money to spend at once. That is why I thought about getting a cam that will work with my computer untill I can save up for the tune. But if I would be giving up a lot of performance just to get a cam that works with my comp. I would rather save for a little while longer and just get the whole thing done at once.
