I currently have two stock cobra tires on my 2001 cobra, my two back tires ran out of tread and i need to purchase to new tires. I was wondering what are the best tires for the back that will fit on my stock wheels? I plan on using these tires as everyday use and to take the track everyso often.

You can't go wrong with a set of Nitto drag radials 275/40/17....unless rotation is important to you. Will last 15,000 or so and will work good at the track with some air taken out and a good burn out to heat them up.

Bridgestone/Firestone makes some really good tires. I put Potenza RE010s on my '99 and they were great. Way better than the original BFGs. Excellent in the wet and dry.

I was going to put Firestone SZ50s on my '03, but they have stopped making them. Their replacement, the Fusion, won't be out until later this Spring. The SZ50s had an excellent rating, better than the new Good Year F1. I can only hope that the Fusion is as good or better. In the meantime, I put two new Cooper Xeons on the back. They are excellent tires. I would recommend them. They are priced right and are as good as anything going.

Is it me or does the name "Firestone" still make people cringe.. especially when mentioned with "Ford".. (Arrrgghhh .. News Media flashbacks)
    J/K

I got Toyo TS1 Proxies all the way around and they are grippy but not a soft tire like the Nitto.. They also have a sweet tread pattern.

I have an '01 Cobra rag-top --that came with the stock 17 X 8" polished wheels. My summer tires Comp T/A's were cooked last year, so I did quite a bit of research over the winter. My conclusion... if you want the best balance in wet and dry performance, braking, and handling, and want a resonable tread life, then go for the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. They're available to fit your rims 245/45ZR-17. I looked at going to 18's but opted instead for the '03 Cobra silver wheels. They're 17 X 9's, and I mounted the Goodyears in 275/40ZR-17's. They look --and feel, awesome!

I just bought Pirelli P-Zero Nero's for my car, they are night and day to the originals, the tread looks awesome and they even go in the snow, I used to have to shovel out of any and all spots, now I just drive on out.

    Just go to Tirerack.com

I just bought 4 new tires from tirerack for 400 bucks, can't beat it!! I got Kuhmo's ECSTA's they look awesome (car isn't on the road yet, damn northeast). If you're just going to do burnouts and have fun with your tires, get some cheap ones! can't beat 100 bucks a tire, burn them up, get some more :nice:

Gotta agree with the BFG KDW's. Had them on my '01 Cobra as my last set of tires. Great handling and cornering, quiet ride, great grip both wet and dry, even wear. Only downfall was I got about 12,000 miles outta them before they were toast, but I guess that is expected out of a performance tire.

I'm running Continental Conti Sport Contact II's (with Nitto drags on the back at the moment.) I love 'em.
