Will road salt ruin my rims?

I just got some WheelReplica FR500s (pics here), and I was wondering if the salt on the roads in the winter will be bad for them. I still have the stock 17". Should I put them on for the winter?

Probably not your rims but its going to jack up the rest of your car with rust

I'd throw on a set of winter wheels. Might as well if you've got a set you can use, and that way you dont have to worry about the extra winter wear and tear on 'em

Those are machine finished wheels and the salt WILL eat them up. If they were painted wheels, the salt wouldn't hurt them.

Just wash them off on a regulat basis and you should bo alright. Changing them for the winter wouldn't hurt anything though!!

Salt will wreak havoc with all of the metal on your car, particularly the aluminum. Chromed steel will hold up better than aluminum, but it will still corrode and look like hell. The intake plenum, alternator, and brackets will be hit particularly hard.

Get some cheap winter wheels or you'll be sorry when you see how screwed-up your new wheels will be from the salt.

Even though I have lived all my life down here in the south by the coast, my sister has lived in Vermont for 25 years and when she comes down to visit, I usually do a detail job on her Escort. This car has factory aluminum rims with clear coat and the clear has been eaten away from years of salt corrosion. Get some cheap winter rims and , better yet; try buying an old beater car for winter and/or work duty.

That's what I would do too...(get a beater for the winter and garage the stang)

That's what I would do...garage you stang during winter. If that's not an option for you, then wash your wheels regularly to keep the salt from rusting them.

Just make sure you put some good snow tires on them if you can. I have a set of 2 month old bullits with 2 month old blizzaks on them, but am thinking of selling them because won't snow much here in Cincinnati, OH.
