Well Just got back from a session with Steve at Powertrain Dynamics. The combo is like this: CHP 331 10.2:1, AFR 185's, TFS stage 2 cam, TFS track heat manifold, 1.6 rockers, 80mm LMAF, BBK longtubes, BBK catted x-pipe, Bassani cat-back, 70mm Fox TB.

It put down a final of 314 RWHP and 342 TQ at the wheels...this is a VERY conservative tuna also for the california heat on 91 octane, all in all im very pleased with the results i thought it was going to make more HP but it feels VERY strong nonetheless. I will put up the dyno graph tomorrow and can someone please help me upload the video it's on a canon ZR500 mini DV camcorder. Let's hear some feedback.:nice:

put it on youtube.. or send to me in email.

Also if you dont mind what was the cost of that entire buildup including exhaust

I will upload it to the computer tomorrow and try youtube or send it to you, what is your email? and as for the cost...I stopped counting a 8k but it rose that high because i pretty much built a turn key motor on the stand...EVERYTHING was brand new, even the brackets

i would have expected bigger hp #'s also, way bigger. now, im not trying to be a dick here but i cant see spending over $8000 on a motor that makes 12hp more than my 302 vert w/ trickflow h/c/i. unported heads at that. i just don't understand the numbers you guys get. makes me thankfull that i have one of, if not the best, tuners in the country tuning my cars. i understand tuning the car safe, but damn. maybe it's just me.

Power seems really low, my brother's stock bottom end 302 with afr 165s, trick flow street manifold, e303 cam, and bbk longtubes made 320rwhp and 346rwtq at JBA in southern california on 91 octane. Going from 8:1 to 10:1 compression should be a 10% power gain, and you have more stroke, more head, more cam, more manifold. I would expect something like 360-375rwhp out of that, hopefully its your injectors. I wouldn't call someone a liar if they told me a motor like that made 400rwhp. The 351s on AFRs site with 10:1 and the 185s are making 450 crank horses.

I'd like to see the chart of your brother's pull :)

Are we talking about SAE Dynojet rwhp?

346 tq ... was the pull made with short or no belt?

Grady

He posted it on the forums a while back, do a search. Yes we are talking corrected horsepower, JBA is a big name shop. The run was with a belt. I always get crap about it when I talk about his numbers. Arent you making only 20 lbs less with your own tweecer tune, stock exhaust, maf and tb?

Wow man you should have better number's than that??? What did Steve tell you to do to rectify that? Even with that cam I would expect to see at least 350hp, and 350+tq. My little 306 got waaaayyyyy better numbers than that. Sorry I didnt make it in this morning. I couldnt leave work.

Steve told me that once it's fuly broken in it should make another 20 or so hp...for now im happy because i was down without a car for awhile...I will put the dyno sheet up tomorrow and talk to steve about the total timing, so 350 RWHP is somewhat where i should be at?? how are the injectors holding me back?? he said he can make 400 RWHP on a N/A car with 24's

I agree with the 24's ....you can run them to 400hp as long as you dont mind running the fuel pressure kinda high. I'm in the middle of a cam swap and i dont plan on changing injectors (I run 24's also). BTW for reference my car made 333rwhp 2-3 yrs ago with the motor in the sig. the cam was a comp extreme energy .544/.544 218/224 @.050 w/ a 112 lsa. That was on a 90+ deg. day in chicago. My SAE corrected numbers they gave me were 400+ to the wheels but I felt the correction factor was way to high so I just give my uncorrected numbers. I bet the proper corrected numbers would be like 350rwhp. I also dont think that tfs stage 2 cam is too small personally. My custom grind by ED (that I'm installing right now) has similar duration specs but more lift. What rpm is the peak power coming in at and the torque?

Hmmm... can't wait to dyno mine for comparison. I'm just afraid it'll be a little while. Busy, busy.... as always.

Now get to the track.... timeslips impress me more than a dyno that the numbers change from one to the next one. :D

1rwhp per 1c.i. is expected. Anything OVER that is going to be driveability not so goodie...IMHO I mean, sure you can put down 375-400rwhp with that car with the right mods but for me that car would suck to drive on street, but thats just me...

See now this is a bad little piece of info... I'm not picking on ya poka, remember I like ya :nice: However my little 306 was tuned by Steve, i'm getting 330hp and 357 tq, on a nice tune. My driveability is almost stock, it will buck under 1500 rpm, but seriously when do we drive under that anyway. I currently run on the smog tune since I can run 87 octane, but even then my numbers are over the 300hp - tq. Even my girlfriends can drive my car without issue's. Steve is a fantastic tuner, and some of the engines he has built are rediculous, just look at his shop car, it's a 95 Gt with a 427, he finally put it back together but is having an issue with tranny, blew it on the first dyno run. That thing is sickkkkkk..... Juiced as soon as that motor loosens up you'll feel the full potential, make sure to get different tunes next time you go to Steve, tell him you want a really aggressive tune and a smog tune, Your running higher compression than I am, so I would still use 91, but the smog tune will ensure you pass smog without a problem. Also his aggressive tune is still very safe, he always leaves little room for error.

Max rpm is 6500, right in my cam spec's. I have a little head work done :rlaugh: ..... and some other little goodies :nice: , so I cant attribute it as off the shelf stuff. I also lost quite a bit of Tq, when my cats went south, I have hollowed out cats and it's deffinatly hurting performance, I need to have straight pipes welded on to just make it a offroad pipe, since I have another catted X pipe sitting in a box.

Ok, but that's the kind of driveability I am talking about so I am sticking with Grady's defention. :) I am guessing your power curve is not as good as Gradys for example too... but I dunno. Maybe post your dyno. From everything I have learned, you will have less low end at lower rpms that he will have which is where we street drivers like it. maybe post and we'll see. Thanks.

O' and juiced...Something is wrong wit hthe tune . It's putting out too low. NOT trying to aggavate you. Best of Luck.
