Ok, I don't remember if I posted this here but I didn't see it in my posting history so here goes. A year ago I had and sold a 91 GT. I miss her. So a few months ago I went for a ride in my cousins 91 LX with a 347 stroker and I was totally impressed. Ever since then I been looking to get a Fox Mustang, T-Bird, Cougar, or Mark VII...anything with a pushrod engine. A few weeks ago I ran into a dude who has an 86 GT. I wanted to buy it but I can't afford it right now. I offered a straight up trade...my 96 Mark VIII for his GT. I offered because I was sure he would turn me down but he agreed to it. I really want the GT but I want to know if you guys out there would make this trade if you were in my shoes.

I bought the Mark VIII a year ago for $1050 and since then I put on 4 new tires and pads and rotors at all 4 corners. It still needs front wheel bearings and some front end work (tie rods and such). And the passenger window does not go all the way up. The GT has been sitting for a while. It needs tires, the radiator leaks a little and the guy says it needs a master cylinder because the brakes go to the floor. I think it just needs to be bled or there is a leak somewhere but I haven't had a chance to inspect it. The interior is a little dirty, the arm rests are missing from the door panels, the electric window switches are missing and the horn doesn't work. So would you trade if you were me...??

Mustang5L5, my Mark VIII is a daily driver but the GT will need a little work...

I don't have any pics. The Mark VIII is clean and the body is straight. The GT isn't bad but the interior is dirty, the dash has some cracks, and the body has a couple of dings in it but nothing major...

Too bad it's not driveable with the brake problem, that would tell you a lot. Try to figure out why he's so anxious to let it go. Why is the interior dirty, has it been left open at some point ? Can you at least crank the engine and if so how does it sound ?

My DD '98 Mark VIII is a much better, more comfortable car than my Mustang ever was......and it doesn't need to be worked on every evening or weekend. It is faster and gets better gas mileage also. That said, the Mustang will be with me indefinitely and so will the Mark VIII. Should I have to choose only one car for a DD it would not be the Mustang.

It cranks and it runs pretty good. I haven't driven it tho. My 91 used to leak brake fluid all the time so maybe it's just a leak somewhere...he isn't anxious to let it go. It was actually my idea to do the trade but I didn't think he would go for it. The interior is just old Mustang dirty, not dirty like it's been on a farm with the windows down for a few years, haha!!

Oh and it's not gonna be my DD. My Mark VIII is just the grocery getter, laundry doer, 2nd whip. My 03 Mustang GT is the DD. I really wanna just buy the 86 and keep the Mark VIII because I get attached to my cars but I can't do that right now...

Okay, got ya ! :nice:

We're just having trouble visualizing what this little jewel looks like without pictures. Even cell phone pics would beat nothing. Ha-ha !

You should have handed him your keys as soon as he said yes....
Haha, well I actually did say yes and he changed his mind. This was a few weeks ago. Last week he contacted me and apologized for backing out of the deal and said he'll def do the trade. I wanted to buy some time just to fully think it over so we made a deal to go through with this around the end of the month. Besides, he's waiting to get his license so he's in no rush...
