How do you fix this "ticking" sound??

I just got a 2000 GT, and I noticed when it's idleing that there is a ticking sound, it sounds like its from the left head, but it also kinda seems like it could be under the car?? I know a lot of other 'Stangs have the "ticking" in the heads... but how do I fix this? What will it cost?

Thanks!

it's probably an exhaust leak, most likely, header/manifold leak. OR worst case scenario is you have valve spring issues, and need to get your heads checked out, good luck!

I had the same problem recently and also thought it was an engine problem. But the noise would go away when pushing down on the clutch pedal.

I don't have my work order at home to give you the parts #, but Ford swapped out the pressure plate/ quad and another part (don't recall) and that fixed the problem.

yeah if the warranty is up will they still cover the fix??? Cause my car just started making a ticking sound today. Very clear from inside sounds like it is coming from behind the glovebox are of the car. Popped the hood and I could only slightly hear it because of the other engine noise.

It says it only applies to 2001-2004 Mustangs. What about 99 and 00's? Same engine, why would they start it at 2001?

99 & 00 were windsor engines, 01+ are romeo engines :nice:

but i think mine may have started to as well, but mine only does it when i start her up cold, but then it goes away  did any of your alls problem start that way?????

I think that is a known issue. I saw it on a service bulletin online somewhere. My car makes an occasional sucking/rubbing or maybe better described as a vacuum sound under light throttle, lol. Do you hear that? We have to remember that we are in a ford, and they do make a lot of noise! Usually good noises tho.
