Whats up everyone, figured Id get a head start on my big move and find out what/if theres any kind of group or what not in the san fran, or sacramento area.

Ill be moving to Vaccaville at the end of july and dont know a single soul out there, figured if theres a mustang group I could just mold my way in.

Secondly what all is done for emissions out there? Here in Alabama there arent any, so the car didnt plan on getting cats.

The car is an 85 which was fuel injectec, barely, but none the less. Being that the car is now carbed, well will be carbed, will putting a set of cats on the car give me a chance at passing emissions, or will it take more than that.

I appreciate the help, and look forward to my move out west

Welcome to Cali. Your car will need to be smogged. You will need cats to pass the "sniffer" test. If your stang came stock with fuel injection you will need to have it since a carb will render it un-smoggable. You will also need to have all the factory smog equipment or it won't pass "visual". You may have a little work to smog it. Don't despair, there are others here that can help. BTW, I grew up in Fairfield, which is 11 miles from Vacaville.

actually thats where my fiances family is from. Well I guess since I dont have any smog stuff, and dont wanna mess with that, it just became a trailer queen. That or find a good friend and keep it alabama tagged.

So are there any mustang groups in the area? hell any car groups in the area?

I live in Fairfield. Vacaville is the next city over. There are tons of 5.0's all around Cali. I'm sure there are clubs, I'm not part of any though. You'll want to check out Foster's Freeze in Vacaville. It's a burger joint and they have car shows there every year. There are pictures of cool cars all over the place in there. And if you want to drag your car, there is Infineon Raceway in Sonoma (Formely known as Sears Point). That's about a 45 minute drive from Vacaville. Also there's Sacramento Raceway, which is probably also about a 45 minute drive from Vacaville. I hope you like the heat, because Vacaville is hot as hell in the summer...lol Welcome to California though!

Great, tracks close by, thats great news.

Heat is nothing, alabama is never below 95 with no less than 95% humidity from may til september.

well i spent 5 yrs in florida, so ive seen my share of "special" people, and on top of that alabama, well lets just say, that we def have some people that shouldnt go out in public, let alone reproduce.

86nu, it'll take some work to get your car to pass smog. Don't even try to get it smogged with out cats. If your car puts out way over the limit, it'll get labeled as a gross poluter and be subjected to different testing requirements for the rest of its life! Did you mistype saying your 85 was fuel injected? 85 GT's came with a 600 cfm Holley 4V carb. Put a carb on it and lean it out a tad, low milage cats, make sure the EGR is hooked up as well as all the vacuum lines, put the timing to 10 degrees base and you should be okay. Fresh cats will do wonders for your smog numbers.

Its an 86, with a no where near stock motor going in it.

Edit, Just ran the vin, It is an 85, factory 5 speed, so that was a carbed car.

Still though, no egr on it anymore, no smog pumps, alt and p/s pump is all thats on the motor, well all thats going to be hung.

I think I found my loop hole, just keep it tagged in alabama. That way the hippees can damn alabama for the **** my car will kick out lol

hey! welcome to cali!
i live about 45 mins south from san francisco... i dont really do any stang clubs around here because well, i dont know of any really... i want to become involved though... their are car meets out here though where all kinda cars come out... and then alot of the people go out and race...
as far as smog... dont bother trying to make it smog legal... any engine mods will be such a hassle... either keep it tagged with the other state;s plates, or find someone here that will pass it for u!
have fun in cali!
norcal is the shieett!

When you say find someone that will pass it for me, as in Like let a bunch of dead presidents do the talking, or just make friends with a shop?

Sounds like you're almost better off sticking in a stock motor in it every 2 years just to pass smog. It'll end up being cheaper than paying $500 for a shady smog every other year. I think you can only keep your car registered in another state for 3 or 6 months. Have to check the DMV rule book for that info.

Once you build it, you should take it to www.sacramentoraceway.com the best drag strip in California. There are always lots of fox body mustangs racing there.

First welcome to SMOG HELL. good idea keeping tags in alabama, there are a couple clubs in Sac. I live in Roseville...about 20 minutes from Sac Raceway.. always awesome crews out there... Wend. Night lights and Sat night , are the times to go and see some serious muscle on the track ! Welcome and good luck !

If i keep it tagged alabama, im not worried about time frames, its not driven everyday, well it wont be, it will be a weekend car, take to a show, take to a strip, and on nicer days cruise around in it, they will have no idea the cars in the state lol, well until the loud pedal is stomped on

I think there is a limit for how long you can keep an out of state car on the streets here. You might want to look into it. What's your combo and what do you think it'll run at the drag strip ?

motor is a .030 351

victor jr heads

victor jr intake mani

holley 750 DP carb

2 stage nitrous kit 75 first shot, 175 second shot

forged pistons

Trickflow stage 3 cam 236/248 .589/.599 110 LSA

Built C4 3500 stall

built 8.8 3.55 gears with 28x10.5x15 tires

Im sure im forgetting soemthing, but im gunning for mid 6's in the 1/8th, so I guess thats like a mid 10 in the 1/4 mile

Luckily the car wont be driven that much so im hopin i can keep it tagged alabama for a while and keep it under the radar
