Engine Stops...low RPM under load

Over the last few months I've felt like things haven't quite been running like they should...for instance in the higher gears at half throttle you'd feel the car...not really buck but changes in power even though my foot wasn't moving....very similiar to that of a misfire.

On the way home tonight I was on the turnpike and it was like if I let the rpms down to 2k in 5th the engine just stopped responding for a few seconds...i increased throttle and NOTHING. Then it was like it caught its breath and came out of it...but if i was keeping it around 2 i could feel it surging.

I replaced the fuel filter not that long ago...like less than 20 k ago.

could it be a fuel pump? all new injectors...cops seem fine...

have you pulled the spark plugs to see what they look like?

my car has been doing something like that too. for instance, i could be pulling away from a light and it would feel like the car is choking and struggling to get going then all of a sudden it clears up.... like someone flipped a switch

yep...exactly.

I just got back from advance w/ 8 new plugs and a new motorcraft fuel filter...we'll see what happens

Mine was doing something similar to this and it ended up being a fuel pump on the verge of death.

I'm willing to bet this is a case of a dying fuel pump as well. Surging is often because of a lean condition.

Fuel Rail pressure sensor (on my car) went out the same time as the Fuel Pump - both of which caused my car to not accelerate beyond about 2000 RPM - issues fixed after repair

could also be the IAC, my gt did the same thing
