I am looking to upgrade to a direct fit aluminum rad and would like to know what has worked for others.....I have a 66 coupe with a 289 4 speed. Car runs really hot in the hot summer days, over 220 when sitting at a light. I am rebuilding the motor and beefing it up and would like to upgrade the rad so I don't damage the motor. I am looking for the best cooling I can get for a reasonable price. See lots on ebay but would like to get one that is a known supplier that guys have had luck with. thanks alot

I got mine, granted for a 67, from Ron Davis custom radiators. I am thrilled with the look and fit. Dual 12" electric fans and billet shroud. They are definitely more expensive, but the customer service was great!

Since I am running the serpentine setup, it turns out I needed low profile fans (my own fault for not measuring), I removed the shroud with fans, sent it back and they swapped them out with no cost and I had them back in two weeks. I am really impressed with them.

I have a Summit Aluminum Radiator in my '65. I cut out the area of the radiator support that "sets back" the original radiator so now there is just enough clearance for the Taurus fan. It also provides more surface area/air flow. I built rubber lined saddle brackets for the bottom and used rubber shock mounts at the top.

i used a fluidyne with an external trans cooler. my car used to run hot and overheat on a regular basis. i now need to switch to a hotter thermostat so my car will actually reach a good operating temperature. it runs so cool that my heat blows out cold!

Keep two things in mind, The rad only works if you get pleanty of air though it. I have the Northern and it works great on my 347 but you need a good fan. A flex fan will seldom get enough air moving. I have a 12" pusher with a very agressive fan and have no problems. If I would put a shroud on, I could get rid of the pusher but I don't like the looks. One other detail that will help. A Northern Rad is much stonger than a stock brass/copper rad and you can and should put a 21 lb. cap on instead of the stock 12 lb. I have the first prototype Northern in my car because my brother is their engineer. They are American made!
