Fox Sticky throttle

I've got a sticky throttle cable and I know that it's not an abnormal replacement part that I should be able to find on LMR but I was wondering, with everything else on my new to me car terribly sticky and needing cleaned and degummed, has anyone ever has success lubeing up the throttle cable?

It seems to want to stick at about 1500 rpm when coming to a stop light after a long cruise and I have to use my foot to pull back on the pedal to free it. It also makes it difficult to not overrev when taking off from first as it wants to stick closed. Does not seem to stick at wot.

Anyway, anyone have luck just shooting lube down the sheath?

Are you sure its the throttle cable? I see alot of this on " Just Rolled In " and its the floor mat impeding the throttle pedal.....

If you have a solvent tank, I would soak the cable in it all day, while occasionally working it by hand..
if you get it working Ok, try lubing it with some motorcycle cable lube.... work it some more and see what happens...

Thank you. It certianly seems like the cable, I tried to spray some lube on the spring and cleaned out the butterfly valve so I do not think it is that anymore, still doing it. I do not have floor mats in it yet so can't be that. Thinking if I already have the cable out to lube it might as well replace it. I don't really see any obvious way to get any lube down the sheath from the motor side and from the car side I'm fighting gravity. May just add it to the replacement part list.

Man, if you can make the factory cable or find another factory cable I'd do that before putting an aftermarket one in.
Disconnect both ends and test the smoothness, I had an issue with my peddle.

Disconnect the cable and straighten it out in the engine bay. Can you easily articulate it?

I'd try to correct the issue with your current cable or find another good used cable off ebay before going with an aftermarket cable. The cable LMR carries is the same as you'll find on Amazon or local parts store. It's plastic and cheap and not very good.

Just gonna throw this out there... maybe dumb, but is anything in the pedal assembly binding or otherwise impeding the functionality of the throttle? Just an idea.

I did clean the tb with Berrymans and lubed the spring, screw, and everything else in the path of the wd spraycan. The idle screw is all the way out, but that was how I had to adjust it to get idle right during retiring and Base idle reset. Is there a "too far"? I thought you backed it out as far as possible while it stayed running?

I also feel this "sticking" when attempting to open the throttle blade manually at the tb. It seems to snap shut and be difficult to push back open occasionally. I suppose the pedal could be binding up. I can attempt to lube the pivoting linkages to see if that helps.

If you look at the pic of the lube I attached, there is a metal tube on the left side of the bottle ( that screws on the top) that is very tiny and will get inside between the cable and housing while you squeeze the lube...
Have you disconnected the cable from the carb?? then worked the carb linkage and the cable separately, trying to diagnose each one??
Have you worked on the carb recently? Could one of the blades be contacting the carb to intake gasket??

If the screw is all the way out, are you sure the TB butterfly isn't 'catching' on the TB?

Are the edges of the butterfly clean?

Well at least I know the issue. The idle screw was not making contact with the stop tab on the TB. As I rotated the screw in, it got very very tight, then "twang/snap" and it was easy to turn again. The TB spring has some sort of "catch" on it if allowed to rotate too far back, or snap back hard without being controlled by the stop tab and screw it kind of over rotates and binds when coming off that position. Feels just like the throttle blade is stuck when manipulating by hand but it is definitely the spring. After opening it all the way and letting it snap back at full speed about 1500 times, I think I found the sweetspot for having it backed out but still stopping it before the spring gets bound up on itself. I guess it has to have a little preload on the spring to take the slack out of it before it actually opens the blade. I'm sure my idle will be higher now, but have to check tomorrow as too late and loud to mess with it more tonight.

But what is this thing? This greasy stamped metal disc was wedged behind the throttle pedal bar. Does it serve a purpose?

That’s kinda what locks the throttle cable into the firewall. It clips onto the cable from inside. Trying to find a pic
