I would ask what are you wanting to accomplish. Mass-backed carpet will help with noise but it definitely won't make it luxury car silent. Depending on what you want would dictate whether or not you needed some deadener in there.

You should check out svtperformance.com. There is alot of info from people that do this to their cobras. Stangnet is a great forum but I think it is a little lacking in the svt department. No offense fellas.

Crutchfield knows what they are doing. You should trust their techs before you trust anything else you read on the internet. I've used them for multiple HU and their instructions and adapters are right on! GL
