Tool for compressing 2.3L valve springs??

I'm not familiar with the seal puller tool you refer to. Is this a standard spring compressor or possibly one that fits over top of the retainer and reaches down to grab the spring coils and compress the spring? Looking at the manual, it appears a special tool is needed to relieve lifter...

    timing belt broke! need help

thnx, but productive? That's somewhat contrary to popular forum etiquette. On some high tech sites, starting a new thread on an old topic can get you banned. They treat threads like technical file folders and try to organize things by cumulatively collecting info on specific topics in a common...

    timing belt broke! need help

Anyone know if the crank pulley needs to be removed to change the timing belt on pre-serpentine era cars?? My '79 accessories use twin V-belts, not serpentine. The crank pulley therefore differs.

Tool for compressing 2.3L valve springs??

What tools are available for servicing the 2.3L 8V valvetrain without pulling the cam? I faintly recall a long lever-type spring compressor tool that allowed a person to replace valve stem seals real easy. Who sells those? Any other options? thnx for any ideas.

HELP! 2.3T suddenly blowing oil bad #3&4!

thnx.... In this case, I'm getting at least a teaspoon of oil sprayed out of the 2 rear cylinders every 5 seconds of cranking. Hold your hand over the spark plug hole and it literally pours off your hand. My passenger fender looks like a can of dirty oil was dumped on it after about 20...

HELP! 2.3T suddenly blowing oil bad #3&4!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?? I don't know much about 2.3T issues...... This '79 turbo motor with 40K original mi was consuming about 1qt/250mi for the last year with minimal blue smoke out the tailpipe. I figured the turbo seals or the valve seals were causing this, as...

Larger front disk upgrade, keeping 4-lug?

I agree. The Lincoln caliper's larger piston will not improve braking at all. They are specifically used to provide proper bias and mate with the 11.35" rear rotors on SVO/Saleen/Motorsport. In other cases, all it does is throw too much bias to the front on cars that do not need that. It makes...

Larger front disk upgrade, keeping 4-lug?

I just completed upgrading my '79 4 cyl turbo front brakes. I switched from the tiny 9" Pinto carryover setup to the modestly upsized 10.2" disks found on most early V8 Fox cars and all '87-'93 Fox 4 cyl only. Clearly Ford engineers realized that the marginal 10" brakes were needed on a 4 cyl...

1979 (Early Fox) Head Unit & Speakers!!!

As an anal retentive engineer, I researched this for a couple weeks and found some great solutions that I'd like to share. FYI, my 1979 Mustang Hatchback came with radio delete option & I wanted to maintain stock-ish early vintage look: 1) I found a set of speakers that fit the doors...

Help! Trying to remove rocker panel trim...

I found a nut hiding behind the front inner fender that restrains the leading edge of the trim piece. This is similar to the trim used on later SVO, so it was described in my 1986 shop manual. Thanks anyway.

Help! Trying to remove rocker panel trim...

I am trying to remove aluminum rocker panel trimpieces from my '79 Mustang. Some early Fox came with this aluminum trim. Can anyone advise me how to pry this trim off without damaging it? The body sheetmetal has surface rust that needs fixed. Thanks for any ideas.

    carb ecu?????

Before the EFI days, Ford progressively rolled-out electronic feedback carburetors on their 2.3L motors for better efficiency and less pollution. The implementation was done in the 1980 thru 1982 timeframe and California cars likely saw it first. These updated "standard design carbs" (not...

Does the '81 Ford Shop Manual include turbo?

OK, I learned after screwing up a bit. It seems the ole' Pinto & Granada models clutter and pollute Ford's Mustang literature through 1980. Many pics and explanations are tailored for non-Mustang. After reviewing my recently-received '80 manuals, I regret not choosing the '81 manuals, since I've...

Does the '81 Ford Shop Manual include turbo?

I found out that the carb 2.3L Turbo is covered in Ford's OEM Engine/Powertrain manuals for years '79 thru '81. I decided to buy an '80 shop manual for my '79 off ebay because my experience with their service literature shows that later publication releases have many updates, corrections and...

Does the '81 Ford Shop Manual include turbo?

I am trying to verify whether the yellow factory "Ford Shop Powertrain Shop Manual" includes turbo motor service procedures. This engine was discontinued during that year & very few cars were produced.

Larger front disk upgrade, keeping 4-lug?

Oversize 12" disc 4-lug kits used to be sold by Baer. Folks running in SCCA used to run them for certain ponycar road track stock classes. I'm sure they are expensive, if they're even sold anymore. It's generally cheaper to buy 4 new 5-bolt wheels because you save by choosing from many...

Help! '79 Latch Striker rattles like Morse Code

I'll try putting up with it after I exhaust all other possibilities. I agree that a new hatch seal will minimize noise for a year or two. The noise occurs when the weight of the hatch assembly causes the metal latch assembly to momentarily compress against the striker and lose preload, when you...
