    Have a good one!

Just thought I'd say "have a good one" to all of the the cool one's on here. I was warned by a few buddies to not go on forums in my spare time to help people. I can see why now. There are a couple of guys on here that with their 2 or 3 cars, have extensively more experience with engines...

    Vibration - Wrong balancer?

Yah, good point! Don't rule out that it ain't a miss in one cylinder at certain RPM's. I was just assuming it was running good. A "dead hole" will most certainly feel like you have the harmonic balancer on there. Good call :)

    carb for a 408 stroker

rbohm; thanks. I am trying to play nice, but I won't just sit there ane let someone dis me. Kudos on your education and track experience! I was a crew member for the worlds fastest blown fuel flat bottom boat back when the NDBA was around. It was "Explosion" #465 dribven by Tom Black. We set...

2V vs. 4V Cleveland Build Question

I guess I'll just shut up then. The 2 or 3 cars you guys have owned that you THINK we so "all that" obviously puts my 30 years of dyno experience, race track experience and the thousands of cars and engines I have worked on & built over those decades to shame, even though (if you guys actually...

    carb for a 408 stroker

"You seem to be able to talk a good game, but your theorys aren't 100%. The lengthly replys are somewhat annoying too. Seems like you'd not have this much time for typing if you were really that busy building racing engines. ". :rlaugh: I have to laugh. Who are YOU to question anyone on...

2V vs. 4V Cleveland Build Question

Oh god, I remembr those days all too well. 180 HP Corvettes, 2,000 nd 2,300 Pinto's, Mustang II's (was that really even a Mustang?). Pacer's, Vega's, Chevette's, etc. All gutless wonders that didn't get that great of gas mileage because the poos things were floored most of the time running at...

    carb for a 408 stroker

Yah, adding a turbo and forcing fuel and air into the engine adds to the displacement, so in the simplest terms, when you installed that turbo, you turned your small block into a big block. Engines are rated at atmospheric pressure which is usually around 14.7 psi. An engine with 351 cubic...

    carb for a 408 stroker

That's what most good race shops do, is MAKE a carb that best suits an engine if the engine warrants such work. 99% of the parts on a 650 and 750 are the same. The bowls, metering blocks, squirters, boosters, etc. You may have a 650 main body on there which would account for the way your car...

2V vs. 4V Cleveland Build Question

So I guess you forgot about the fact that Ford created a MODIFIED engine calling it the 351 / 400 M which used smaller runner / smaller valved heads, because they made better low-end torque and fuel economy.... Isn;t that why those came in trucks? Good low-end torque with a similar block...

    carb for a 408 stroker

I didn't take the time to do the math either. 3,500 cfm was a quick figure of speech. Like saying your bag of groceries weighs a ton after you've carried it for an hour. My point was, LOTS of cfm is going through small carbs on a seriously blown engine making serious horsepower (20 to 30...

    69 351w blower build

Don't use a 69 "low deck" block! They have a 9.480" height where the 71 and up blocks have a 9.503" height. That difference in height means the difference between your pistons having negative deck clearance (sticking up out of the block), and having ample clearance. No one makes out of the...

2V vs. 4V Cleveland Build Question

Since when is anyone on here running a Nascar engine or a pro stock style engine on the street? They discontinued them because they didn't work on the street. I was referring to STREET engines, not race stuff. I used to run a 427 SOHC engine too. We still used them into the 80's. Does that mean...

    windsor heads on 289

Yes, your intake will bolt right on considering the Windsor heads and the later 289/302 heads were pretty much identical except for the head bolt sizes. As far as push rod length, you won't really know unless you go in and check it with an adjustable push rod to make sure the geometry is...

    carb for a 408 stroker

Answer 1 for gunnerdog; Yes, I would at least give it a try and see how it runs. Don't buy something until you try whwta you have first. Answer 2 for rbohm; GM also designed the Holley 3310 for the 68 SS 396 Chevelle, a vacuum secondary carb. See any "fast" or "quick" GM cars with Q jets...

How to put together an interior with a 8-point cage???

Most of the cars we build or work on have full cages in them. Some we have put interiors in and other's we let the upholstry shop do it. You just have to finaggle around, squeeze your way in (and back out again) and take it slow and one piece at a time. You most certainly have to cut around...

    carb for a 408 stroker

Trust me, I KNOW Edelbrock carbs VERY well, and they are great carbs for a mild engine like this or any other mild performance engine. I am also VERY farmiliar with the upper throttle plate which is air controlled. It'sa tried and true design that works pretty darn good. I don't dispute that. I...

    Anyone try hoades lifters?

yah maybe I'll do that being that NO ONE other than the 2 lifter manufacturers MADE lifters for decades. His father might have found a use for loose lifters and Crane might have expanded on it, as many companies have expended on things that work and don;t work, year after year. Shoebeck made...

    carb for a 408 stroker

You have to take a LOT of things into consideration first. First off, you have small Performer heads and a small cam (for a 408, those are small). The components you have are designed for low RPM, high torque numbers. That combo with a big carb doesn't mix. Why would you stick a big carb on...

2V vs. 4V Cleveland Build Question

Just remember... bigger is not better in 90% of all engines. The big 4V heads were short lived for a reason, just as the BOSS 302 was short lived. The 351C-4V heads had ports and vales big enough to just about put tennis balls into, yet we make more power with better low-end torque with 351W's...
