you dont say if it is carb or fuel injected. I had a 88 gt do that when it had a bad throttle position sensor

up shift light only works on non v8 cars and other light is seat belt warning

the 84 has a long throw shifter but all else is the same.

I just changed my fuel tank sender unit. got it from ebay from a mustang parts store for about $75. mine was doing the same as yours and it works great now. its not that hard to change just run it low on gas and drop to tank took about 30 mins to change.

I would change ignition switch its only $15 and takes 10 min to change

I once bought a t 5 trans from a junk yard from a 90 mustang to go in my 84 gt 350 and the speedometer was way off cant remember what way high or low but pulled it back out and found the junk yard tried to stick me by selling me a 4 cylinder trans instead of a 5.0 trans.

I fixed it finaly, it was the pick-ups or stallor plate in the distributor

I put a new cam in my 84 engine that was a flat tapped motor and had a cam failure and lost the engine because of the wrong oil. I did not know that the regular motor oil could not protect a flat tapped lifters. you must use oil with zinc in it like valvoline racing oil.
