    66 ….289 heads

Are you looking for a major upgrade or just a little more umph? Any of the major aluminum heads are a good upgrade and potentially overkill on a mild engine. Option 2 is find yourself a set of redone 69/70 351W heads. I went aluminum on a not so mild 302 in my 66 coupe and Windsor heads on the...

Floor Removal Required To Install Convertible Inner Rocker Panels?

i actually put in sub frame connectors first to keep the frame rails aligned before I put in the floors, since I had my car on a homemade roll around cart and didn't want the rails to move in any way.

Floor Removal Required To Install Convertible Inner Rocker Panels?

Not sure about bending up the flange??? Based on what I saw I don't think it would work well but who knows. I've done too many things one way only to figure out or be told of another way. I cut the pan because it let me weld the pan to the underside of the rocker to make up for the lack of a...

Floor Removal Required To Install Convertible Inner Rocker Panels?

walken, just finished this same thing on my 66 coupe last week. Actually I put new floors in first then decided to stiffen the chassis afterwards...definitely not the way to do it! The floors need to be sliced from the outer rocker with enough room to slide the vert inner rocker in the slice...

    1966 mustang 86 block

The 86 block I have has flat tops and the "turbo swirl" heads. Actually the head design wasn't a bad idea to promote better atomization in the cylinder, but the flat tops didn't allow for a lot of cam lift. I believe the max was around 0.450" possibly less...

    1966 mustang 86 block

The duraspark any parts store will carry. Just ask for it from any V8 ford from 75 to 85. I pick them up from the junkyard all the time for about $5 our so. Haven't had a bad one yet.... When you get it make sure irt has the blue strain relief connector were the wires come out of the box, it's...

    1966 mustang 86 block

Personally I'd buy an Duraspark for the money or an MSD 6 if you want it a little more performance oriented. Jacobs makes a nice setup but at almost twice the cost of the MSD... Summit's cd ignition box looks pretty good as well but I've no experience with it.

    1966 mustang 86 block

What icm are you currently running? Most of them support a magnetic pickup style dizzy. Without knowing I would assume, again, that one of the sets of wires supports a mag. pickup distributor.

    1966 mustang 86 block

Essentially yes. The 85 dizzy is a magnetic pickup style unit. I "assume" you could switch the plates internally to use points but why bother... Even the stock Duraspark ($25 at most part stores) is better than having to occasionally adjust points. I used a duraspark box on my engine...

    1966 mustang 86 block

If using the 85 dizzi you can hook it up similar to the duraspark conversion diagrams. There are three wires, black, green,& purple. With an MSD the black isn't used & the purple and green wires connect to the magnetic pickup harness from the ignition box.

steel cowl vent covers for a 65.

I did this in my 66 coupe about 15 yrs ago. I ran a 4" flexible tube out the firewall, under the front wheel well, just above the front tire. This is a low pressure area that gives me enough air to run the heater. Not quite as efficient as the cowl, but Jersey gets a little too cold to eliminate...

Wiring in a power distribution panel?

Thanks guys. Chris, I like that schematic. I've used relays wherever I can with accessories so I don't overload any one circuit. i was looking to add the PDB with the large blade type fuses so I could separate the loads under the dash where they all run in from one wire. I'm probably making...

Wiring in a power distribution panel?

Has anyone tried to wire in a separate late model distribution panel (fancy name for a fuse panel...) under the hood of their car? I have a few left over 88/89 Bronco 2 wiring harness' from my 5.0L conversion and I'd like to put the fuse panel under the hood of my 66 coupe. It'll give me ten...

    T-5 input shaft swap

94/5 were the last years of the 5.0L/302. You can swap the input shaft or find a 94/5 bellhousing (this is the route I went). The difference in the two input shafts is 5/8". That 5/8" put my shifter right in the middle of the stock trans hole. There is one other difference in the bells. The 94...
