yes that is were the stock one came out, the hole you see right next to it is were the negitive battery cable goes. I am pretty sure that is were the oil sender was, looked like a black socket. And yes it is a 5.0, in the pic I am actully holding the sender in the hole that the old one came out...

I agree with the compression test, that will tell you. And if you have low compression on cylinders that are right next to each other than that is the HG.

I just got my new parts to correct my speedo after the 3.73 swap, I looked around and still couldn't find my answer. I emailed a guy at 50resto and he said to get a 21 tooth speedo gear and a 7 tooth drive gear. My question is how do I get to the speedo drive gear? I haven't looked at it yet but...

So you did take your plugs wires off? That is what it sounds like to me, and if you are positive that you have the wires on right then loosen the distributor and keep turing it back and forth wile trying to start it. It should run good enough to get the timing set.
