Question about Shifting procedures on 02 GT

With any manual transmission, it's not a good idea to either ride the clutch (drive with your foot on it while it's engaged), or to hold it in continuously and needlessly. Wears out the throwout bearing. No good reason to do either. Of course, if you find yourself in a situation where you...

NO ONE knows what this is, or has experienced it themselves??

    notchy clutch??

Anyone know what causes the clutch to feel like it's ratcheting as you slowly push it to the floor?? I just can't think of anything, unless there's a cheap bearing in the clutch quadrant mounting scheme that goes to hell and develops "detents". Any solid ideas??

No problem. I hope you get it cleared up and everything working to your satisfaction.

    Desperately need some advice

I think you just found your problem. The cooling system only has so much capacity. If you exceed that (by increasing the power output too much), or decrease it's efficiency too much (what you're effectively doing), and you're going to compromise it's ability to adequately cool the car...

    Desperately need some advice

Where is the trans cooler mounted??? It's not in front of the radiator, is it?? It sounds too coincidental to be coincidental, if you know what I mean. It's mere presence on the vehicle shouldn't affect engine temp...unless it's obstructing flow to the radiator, and/or adding heat to the...

    Weird Question

It's definitely BS - at least as far as working on all cars, with all tires, and all transmissions. Though it's always possible it works for a specific model car with specific tires (for instance, if your mustang has a 1.33-1.35:1 3rd gear, and 25.7 inch diameter tires). Third gear is not...

    Traction Control off

That sounds like a GREAT idea!! I HATE trac ctrl...even in the snow - actually, especially in the snow - on dry pavement it's rarely invoked other than very slightly. Just as with ABS, not slipping at all isn't always the most effective technique - even if it does make the soccer moms happy...

    peak hp....at what rpm??

I was thinking it was closer to a torque peak around 4000 or so, and hp peak around 5400 or so?? Just checked the specs on the Ford site. 302 ft.-lbs. @ 4000 rpm and 260hp @ 5250.

    Paint my interior?

To each his own.... I'm sure someone here has done that - I'm pretty sure of seen pictures of someone's car with painted interior parts. Personally...I'd be really hesitant to paint those plastic panels. I'd be nervous about getting good adhesion. Your odds of not having flaking, peeling...

    top speed 4th gear

I calculate 113 mph w/ 4.10's, 26" effective tire diameter, and 6000 rpm. 4.30's would be 113 x 4.1/4.3 = 108mph. If your tire diameter is bigger, multiply whichever number (108 for 4.30's or 113 for 4.10's) by your tire diameter divided by 26. If you want a different engine speed...

    Winter snow brings GT woes...

Drive Escape??? I've not seen that button in my car...is that like an ejection seat or something??? :D Drive it like it was meant to be driven - switch off that damn traction control and go sideways! :D Honestly - I don't have that much trouble...except getting started. Even the slightest...

When it starts causing problems. You should have a LONG way to go.

    Lugnut torque specs?

Actually, you get less compression with steel, so you need more torque to ensure the nuts can't back off too easily. You also are more likely to gall, and plastically deform, the mating surface with an aluminum wheel, thus requiring slightly lower torques. You check most torque specs., and you...

    snow

The first thing I do is hit the "Trac Control Off" button. I HATE that goddamned system. If it's so slick that the car's gonna come all the way around instantly, it won't catch it in time anyway. And if not, and I'm trying to get across and intersection quickly, I DON'T want it cutting all...

    Mach1 chin spoiler install

It's just black molded plastic. Basically a matte black finish...looks fine. If you want to paint it, you're going to need to use a flex agent to prevent cracking and peeling, and you're gonna have to do a bunch of sanding to get it smooth....or your body shop will!! Looks good black...but...

    Mach1 chin spoiler install

Ditto. There are about a dozen fasteners to drill for. I lined up the back edges with the wheel well openings and taped them in place with packaging tape. Then I added tape to hold it in place as it starts curving around to the front. And then I taped the front loosely just to hold it...

    help!!!!! engine swap

Henrie- You're gonna want to find someone that's DONE it...unless you know so much about it that you probably shouldn't need to be asking here. People's opinions and guesses are gonna get you nowhere - and you're gonna get a LOT of them. I swapped a Chevy small block into a Chrysler...

    Lugnut torque specs?

These all sound in the ball park. I recall a general spec of 80 ft.-lbs., maybe up to 90 or 100 ft.-lbs., for aluminum wheels, and around 100-120 ft.-lbs. for steel wheels. 90 ought to be safe. I'd follow the pattern around at least twice at that torque, or until they no longer move after...
