    I would definitely go with some sort of trac loc. The lower gear and traction will drop your ET significantly. My guess is it will put you solidly in the 14s. With the manual tranny.....If you drive it like you stole it, the 8" wont hold. People will argue the glory of the 8" ford all...

    M-II weak components for drag racing?

    I was depleteing the local supply of 8" trac locs before i built a 9" for the II. Broke a carrier, broke a ring gear, snapped a couple axles. Maybe some of the aftermarket stuff is decent. Dont know, i swapped to a 9" before most of that stuff was available. Lots of folks will argue about it...

    re-installing transmissions

    i always just installed the assembly and the bell then dropped it in the car and then put the tranny in under the car while someone pushed the clutch in. Maybe thats the hard way but it beats fighting with it. Gotta crawl under anyway for the drive shaft etc.

    Of the 3 i would choose the 278 with your setup. Since you are using stock heads and such you might want to consider a split lift-split duration camshaft. I think that would give you the most for your money with your setup. Ford racing sells some www.fordracingparts.com M-6250-A312 or...
