gaaah...throwing P0153 code

i keep throwing the P0153 code, o2(ho2s-21) ckt slow response (b1,s1)

my car is tuned for LT's and it's also tuned for the o/r prochamber so i shouldnt be throwing any o2 sensor codes(yes i know its for the front o2 sensors)

the thing is, I just replaced both front o2 sensors right before the new tune...im not sure why i keep throwing this code...sometimes when i clear the code i can drive the car a few times without the CEL coming on and other times it turns on after the 1st run...

also, sometimes when the CEL light comes on, the car will run like total crap..then i'll clear the code, and the car will drive normal... and sometimes when the CEL comes on, it will drive perfectly normal...

this is driving me nuts...what could be going on here?
 
O2 sensors get slow when they don't have enough heat in them and thin-tube LTs may not retain enough heat by the collectors to keep the O2s warm enough to operate properly. More tuning might help. Header wrap might help (keeps more heat in). I've even heard of moving the O2 sensor bung into one of the primaries nearer the head to get a hotter sampling...
 
Old O2 sensors get slow as well

How many miles? If more than 100k, consider changing O2 sensors.

As the O2 sensors age, the response slows as well. Could have a case where the Long tube headers combined with old O2 sensors is over the PCM's limit.

This can also be caused by a vac leak. Check the usual things (oil dip stick, PCV, all breather lines, vac control lines, vac line that goes inside pass compartment).

It could be a combination of all 3 things (LT headers, old O2, vac leak, not enough heat).
 
ive been using my xcal3 to do all the readings

it has 68k miles and the sensors are brand new...bank 1 is dirvers side correct?

ill also check everything for vac leaks too....would it throw this code if you had an exhaust leak? i took a road trip last week and being that GA cant build a road for crap i kept bottoming out coming on and off of bridges due to their 20year long road construction...maybe i knocked something loose exhaust wise :shrug:
 
Bank 1 is the right side.

For the 4.6 modular.

Bank 1 is the right side. Cylinder 1-4 is on bank 1.

Bank 2 is the left side. Cylinder 5-8 is on bank 2.

My reference says P0153 is associated with HO2S-21 (BANK 2 front) which is the driver's side.

Did the drivability issue (DTC) start with the LT install? If the LT headers have been installed for awhile and the DTC suddenly started, IMO that tends to say that something changed/failed/wore out.

If the DTC started shortly after the LT install, then they are most likely related.

For pinpoint test H20, exhaust leak is not one of the listed causes. O2 heater circuit, O2 sensor, vac leak, fuel injector, and wiring are listed as possible causes.

IMO, it is possible to damage an O2 sensor from mechanical shock. Confirm that the heater circuit is working. Inspect the wiring. Also look for changes in the O2 return PID. No changes at all could indicate a wiring problem or complete O2 failure.

Consider monitoring your long term fuel trim values. Compare bank 1/2. A large difference could point to a bad O2 sensor. Let's say the O2 heater circuit does not work all of the time. Then the return values will be different on that side.

Consider cleaning the MAF. A dirty MAF may cause drivability issues. Perhaps unrelated to the DTC.

Slow response means it isn't heating up fast enough. A common problem with long tubes. Both of Trinity GT's suggestions will more then likely fix your problem.
The OP gave the impression that the problem started some time after the LT install. This implies some period of time without the PCM throwing any DTC's.

I would have thought a problem directly related to the LT/O2 low heat would have stated soon after the initial install.

Obviously you guys have better direct experience than I.
 
yeah this all happened after the LT's were installed

but im open for all options so im up for trying anything...i cant stand it when the light comes on and the car bucks under throttle...i dont mind if the light comes on and it drives normal....
