Can i take off my AC compressor and leave the bracket there so that the power steering stays where it is, and just run a shorter belt? If so what size belt? I'm a little strapped for cash and want a temporary AC delete solution.
I don't think you can, cause then you're tensioner is not going to work. You can buy kit that moves the power steering up there, or just a free spinning pulley that goes up there.
Yea that's what i figured, just wondering if anyone knew any tricks. Next question, what size belt do i need to just delete the smog pump, and leave the AC on for now untill i get the right bracket?
Thats what I pretty much did, but I cut the stock bracket so it wouldn't be soo ugly. Before I added the blower I got a belt just tight enough to fit with the alt loosened and pulled over to get the belt on. Then I would pry the alt back into the stock location and bolt it up. With crank & water pump underdrives and the stock alt pullies I ran a 775K6 belt.
I'll admit that does look kinda odd, but i'm all for function. I'm going to hit the junkyards today and see if i can find a non AC bracket, maybe i'll get lucky.
