radio relocation ?

I have a 88 gt and I hate that the radio is way down by the shifter. Has anyone tried puting it where the two center vents are. I think that would be a perfect location.

I've seen it done, just make sure you do something with the heater vents. You don't want heat blowing into your stereo. I think the factory location is like the worst placement of a stereo ever. I've also seen the HVAC and stereo swapped around which is another good alternative but takes more work.

they make relocation kits where you can switch spots with the hvac controls

That's what I'm doing with my build I am doing either a shaker 500 or Ford navigation unit.I am currently working on the templates for the faceplate.
