what should i do first

FRPP started a new manufacturing process for their gears- only 1 cut pass to minimize costs, which leads to a slightly less quality product (not to bash Ford..) and the FRPP's whine a little bit more because of this. Motive gears are built well, and cost about the same as the FRPP gears.

I also highly recommend a JBA catback. You will not be disappointed!!! PM me if you would like a sound clip of my 95 with a mac o/r H and JBA catback.

Welcome to SN. Surprised no has mentioned underdrive pulleys yet. By far the best bang for the buck. Get you some aluminum U/D pulleys since you live/work in a coastal state. I'd say a new H or X pipe would be a close second in hp boost from a stock 4 catted H-pipe. A good free upgrade is to turn up intial timing up to 12-14*.

"whell, sorry, but i currently have 3:73's and i know if i was doing alot of highway driving i would choose not to have them....I'm pulling [email protected] milder like the 3:55's said above, maby even 3:27's.........a nice cruise at 2,[email protected]."

I agree!

"They will turn less than 150 more rpm than 355's at cruise speeds"

150 RPM DOES make a difference. Buy my gears! :) I will sell them for....$100 and they have only 3k miles on them approx. Motive 3.55's are great for hwy.

Ahhh Grady you always seem to know more than I.... :hail2:

It ain't like that at all :nono:

JK, however, Grady does know the world of Mustangs, I am merely a beginner!

You guys really crack me up a lot of the time :rlaugh:

I really do enjoy seeing what ya'll do and have to say
Just one of the reasons I hang on 94-95 :SNSign:

Here is how it really is
If you will ... think about these two things

1) I'm way older than ya'll :(
which means
2) I've hosed up way more times than ya'll :)

When I see these what should I do kinda threads

All I gotta do is think back on how I hosed up:rlaugh:

I'll give you my #1 hose up that took me a pretty long time to learn

I would listen to my other gear head buds and then waste time, effort, and worst of all ... MONEY :fuss: After a while, I saw, they not only knew no more than me ... they had no positive fruit from their knowledge OR labor.

I said to em one day ... "We are the blind leading the blind" :rlaugh:
Then ... as a group ... we made some changes :nice:

At that time, the group was at the 1/4 mile track one or two times each week. We backed off our racing a bit and started to hang and help other racers who were doing what we wanted to do.

Another thing we did was ... We started to hang out at this place that raced oval dirt track cars which were powered with sbf's.

Just to show you how WISE this hick Texan is
look at just a couple of my many classic hose ups

1) I bought a sbf long block out of a Lotus Road Racer
Them old iron heads were a work of art
Tiny pistons ... it was only 221 cubic inches
Rods, crank, & block ... modded like none of us had seen
anyway
It would not idle at less than 2K
It did not start to pick up in power until 5K
It was such a bow wow dog to drive around town :notnice:
HOWEVER
From 6500 to 10K ... it would scream

How wise was that ???

2) I bought this 60 Falcon out of a Junk Yard
where I found it should'a told me somethin :rlaugh:
We weighed it without motor/trans ... 1800 lbs
HOWEVER
Someone had put a straight axle in it
We put my complete race car drive train in it
Snuck it out one night with my softest slicks on it
Pulled the wheels 2 feet ... ... or so we thought
Took it to the strip ... at the 1/2 point it started to shake/shimmy
End of story :(

Again ... How wise was that ???

See what I'm tryin to say?
OR
Know what I mean Vern?

I'm done now :D

You guys gotta think ahead a bit ;)

If you are gonna mod your Stang to a point of h/c/i
then
The power band is gonna shift up

You will then have useable range to 6K or more :nice:

2500 ani't nothin when you are setup like that :D

Besides ... Ford oem tachs are noted for reading high

Once More http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/608.shtml

Tell Me the specifics about your Stang such as tire size and the like

You really DO think 125 more rpm ... is a BIG difference ???

Not trying to argue :nono: just can't relate

Most likely its cause I've had countless cars with final ratio of 1 to 1. I alwalys ran 411's and 456's in those cars. Street Strip cars btw.

Even with the cars I drove a good bit on the street .............
I ran no less than 370's :)

Those were 9 inch ratios btw :D

These days ... we all got OVERDRIVE :nice:

I just don't see all the fuss over a tiny bit more rpm at highway speeds and allowing that to compromise a bit more pep when you step on the skinny pedal

One last thing ... My 95 would be all the better if I had 410's
BUT
It needs to be said ... Its a weekend toy only ... If I only had one car ... I'd not do go that high ... just 373's :rlaugh:

Its all good guys :nice: ............
just tryin to share hard data only with the tool btw

Grady

All good points. Only thing I can tell you is that in my 3.55-3.90 change, the approx 200 rpm difference made a HUGE difference to me in overdrive. That is why on long trips the 3.55's are better.

BTW, not trying to agrue, just my - o and experience, thanks. :)

With over 150k on the odo, before you start doing engine mods, it might be a good idea to figure out if the shortblock is still in good enough condition to build upon without letting go in a few thousand miles.

 390's

I thought we were talkin about 3:55 & 3:73 differences

btw ... its been a while since I ran the numbers of those two ratios

Using the little program default tire size at 70 mph .............

I got 112 rpm diff between 355's & 373's
I got 218 rpm diff between 355's & 390's
I got 343 rpm diff between 355's & 410's

At 70 mph

355's turn 2211
373's turn 2323
390's turn 2429
410's turn 2554

Of course ...... diff tire size will give diff value :)

Tired (lol) of this subject :D

I'm now gonna slip away quietly :rlaugh:

Grady

Your numbers are right on Grady (other than I drive 75mph) and I agree that they are correct. My point is that it all adds up..120 RPM here and there..Plus I would like someone to buy my gears. I know, I know, I will shut up now. :dead: :SNSign:

Grady you may now have the chair..:chair:
