not true. i havent dealt with metlife insurance before so i dont know how they are. but if u take the car to a shop with a good reputation the car can be put back perfect. i would not recommend taking the car to the shop the insurance company suggest unless u know for certain that they do good work. insurance companies dont give a **** what kind of work a shop does, they make deals with shops to do the work at discounted prices if they send u to them. so if a shop is getting boned on the labor rate or having to give a discount on the parts for ur insurance company, they have to make up for that discount somewhere, which usually ends up meaning ur car gets butchered up. thats why i dont give any discounts at all to any insurance companies. make sure the shop u take it to has certified techs and has a good reputation. u do NOT have to take it where the insurace company tells u, no matter what they say.

Buy a 4v cobra/mach and you'll be really content.
you cant say that for a fact. It might, it might not. You have no way of knowing what you claim. Like I said, Ive owned 2 brand new 98's. My current 97 has been wrecked, very similar on the front end with frame damage, and it tracks, drives, and handles as well as both of those cars did. It can be fixed, frame damage does not mean unrepearable, or that it will not drive well if properly fixed.
As far as the never driving the same, thats a load of crap. I had a race car that got wrecked, bent the frame in a complete 90 degree.. SOOO many people wrote the poor thing off that it would never ever win a race again, so I took it to the shop and used a frame correction machine.. the first race back out on the track I won.. i won about 50 races with it there after with my "bent up" crappy frame circle track car.. So thats a load.. if you find a good shop that can bend it back right, go for it. Think about all the old mustangs with the rusted up frame rails that are fixed, and how they are now on the road? I'm pretty sure Unique motorsports and shelby wouldn't be putting out fastbacks left and right if all of them were completely toast and didnt drive right.. theres to much to the contrary to prove that they can be in fact fixed correctly.
Sorry to hear about your car. I'm confused. Would you post tragic pics of your best friend if he had a horrible accident and died?

but if posting pics could save him would you do it? i think so. dont be so quick to write her off.
the airbags not deploying is a good thing, that has a lot of influence on whether its totaled or not. look at it this way, she knew it wasnt her time to go.
if you end up fixng it yourself it shouldnt be too hard. biggest thing would be putting it on a frame straightener, even though it will never be as strong as before, it should still be ok. the rest is bolt on and paint. good luck.

You bend/tweak the frame, it's going to drive differently. You may not feel or notice the difference, but it's there. The geometry of the frame is weakened once it's bent and fixed. Your wining races has nothing to do with this conversation

You seem to contradict yourself a bit here. It will drive differently but you won't notice or feel it? Might want to re-think that.
My car was hit and sustained similar front end damage when it was a few months old. I took it to a good shop and the car has no problems at all. Whether it drives the same or not is entirely up to the guy that fixes it and whether they know what they are doing.

often extensively repaired cars are BETTER than new since a good technician can get tolerances much closer than they were from the assembly line

think of it like bending a coat hanger, or an envelope with the two little metal clips you bend back and fourth to open it, do it enough and theyll break right off. im not saying it wont be safe or anything, but, i dont see how it could ever be as strong as it once was.

I'm well aware of metal fatigue...I designed heavy equipment attachments for a number of years...
but that isn't a terribly relevant issue to collision repair...a properly done repair will be stronger than the original parts
