Just what I needed another project, but I just couldn't pass this up. Here are some shots of the 1983 Capri RS 5.0 I just picked up. Car was originally from Nebraska and has been sitting for the past several years at a house near Phoenix. The body is in great shape, and the interior is excellent. The motor will need some cleaning and tending too. I tried to start it today. Put a couple gallons of fuel in it and some in the carb. It fired and tried to run but didn't pull any up to the carb yet. I'll try again on Wednesday when I have time. Oil Pressure came right up and it sounded good (open Hooker Headers) so think once I get the gas to flow should run ok. If it does I'll put some exhaust on it license it, and drive it as is for now till the 87 is done. Once the notch is back on the road then the Capri will get garaged and gone over top to bottom.

LOOKS LIKE THE RS I USED TO HAVE I REGRET SELLING IT. I MISS IT ALLOT

not to thread jack, but i haven't been on here much lately and didn't get to see the aero to capri conversion on frankenstang. she looks good Frankie, nice work! i like the rear end setup you went with A LOT better than the regular capri rear bumper, bubble hatch, and tail lights. what kind of tail lights are those, btw? did they come on a specific year capri?

No thread jacking!! :fuss: This is Darren's thread, not mine.

Anyway, my Capri was never a bubble hatch. I think the first year of the bubble butts was '83? The tail lights are '80 Capri tail lights. Mine is an '80. I almost fell out of my chair when I found them on Ebay.

Any questions anyone may have about my Capri can be asked here. :nice:

for sure...didn't mean to derail. again though, it looks great!

to the OP, that looks like a fun project! not too far gone to be a lot of work but just enough to justify fixing it up how you like. nice find!

Well, thank you. :nice:

I believe he told me he's going to keep it stock? At least body and interior... right, Darren?

no problem Lynn. you've taken that car a long way. :nice:

i agree for Darren to keep it stock. capri's are hard to find. at least around here. in the past 4 years or so, i can only remember seeing 1 MAYBE 2 capri's in my area.

i saw he said he has a coupe as well. what are the details on that car?

Nice find, I had one just like it! Are you keeping the old school Ford Motorsports mudflaps, I'll take 'em!

:nice:

I HOPE he's keeping them!

Yeah I do plan on keeping them even though a couple are a little rough. IF (note big if) I do decide to part ways with them I'll keep you in mind.

Well, thank you. :nice:

Yeah Lynn has me pretty well covered here, she helped me get the car home (thanks Lynn's Mom & Dad). Even though I'm not a big fan of red, I do plan on trying to keep the car as original as possible on the outside and interior. Mechanically I am only planning on the possibility of some brake upgrades, keeping the 4 lug, and possibly converting to SEFI using the old motor from my 87 LX in the future.

As far as my 87 LX, it is an original 5.0, T5, no option notch. At this point in it's hard life it is far from no option and has a lot of custom touches, and adding more during it's rebuild. Even though I need to update my site some here is a link to my site for more details on it.

For some reason, I thought the bubble hatch's were only 85 & 86. I don't know that I've ever actually seen an 83 Capri before now.

I believe the Capri's only used two different tail lights. All the bubble's had tails like Darren's and all the flat hatch's had tails like your 80's. I have a set on the 93 and a spare set in the garage. :p

Darren, nice find on the 83! I just found another flat hatch Capri I'm trying to get. Same faded red as yours. I'm really hoping dude will get up off it. It's not tagged and just wasting away.

Spent a little quality time with the RS the past 2 days, I managed to get it fired up by priming the carb. Deduced the fuel pump wasn't pulling anything from the tank. As a new pump is pretty inexpensive I put a new one on it and used my air compressor to back flush the main & return lines. Fired it up again, still no pull from the tank. Took the lines loose at the tank and used air again. The return line flows free but the main seams to be plugged in the tank.
So on my next day off if I have time I will drop the tank and inspect it. I also have quite a few wires that will need replace as the insulation is just crumbling off them from age.
I did how ever transfer my "flag" to the new car. Got 2 year tags and was able to transfer my custom plate from the 87 to the RS. Is sad the 2 year fee for the custom plate was more than than the 2 year registration on the car.
Here are some more pictures I took today of the plate on the RS and some of the interior. I have yet to clean the inside yet so what you see is the condition it was in when I bought it.
