I found a GT40 upper and lower for sale. 300 bucks. Does anybody know what these intakes flow? Are they good intakes to be used with AFR 165's? Im just wondering if I should save the 300 bucks for a better intake or will this intake do? Im looking to build my car to have no promblems taking a near stock LS1.

I plan on keeping the stock cam and runnning AFR's 165. With all the other usualy boltons. Would this intake be good for the AFR's or should I just save up for a RPM2?

I dont plan on converting to mass-air untill I see just how fast I can make my speed density car run.

Might even run some nitrous but I dont think its a good idea with 4.10's.

Let me know what you think. Thanks

I don't know if there are ill effects w/speed density, but I put the intake on my mild 89 LX AOD and it was a noticeable difference. I think it comes down to what you want. If you like the looks, that is half off a new one. Not bad. I paid $270 for mine used with all sensors and some silicone heater hoses and arp intake bolts. I think I got a pretty good deal as do you. You will pay $250 more for a better intake, but not enough to me to spend the difference. I think it comes down to personal preference. I would go Gt40 if I was you IMHO. If you were planning on running 12+ lbs of boost, the RPM2 would be better, but still not crazy more than the Gt40 even still.

Why not a different cam if you are doing heads? I assume you will convert to mass air with the heads? A friend ran Edel 6037 heads with speed density and it ran chitty all the time. He converted and it was wayyyyy better, fwiw.

All right guys that's what I wanted to hear. I'll go and pick it up tomorrow. I like the look of the intake also.

Should I port and polish the lower intake or just throw on and go?

I might convert or keep the speed density. I might try and find a cam made for nitrous. Cause I heard they work well with speed density. I just dont want to dish out the 600 bucks for the conversion. But 24ibs injectors probably wouldnt be a bad idea when running nitrous.

If your gonna put that intake on AFR 165 heads, you better port the lower for best power. You may know I do that. $300 was a very good price for an intake in good condition.

Gasket matching is NOT the same thing as porting. Gasket matching is opening the first 1/2" or so of the lower intake runners at the head flange to match the intake gasket. REAL porting goes well beyond that. It entails reshaping runner walls to give better flow.

I charge $100 + return shipping - paste the link in my signature for more info and e-mail me from the site.

Thanks TMOSS for the info. I'll definitley keep you in mind for the intake porting. So if I can match my intake with the gasket and there is no overlapping( completly matches the runner ports) do I have a gasket matched intake? Are you supposed to be able to see some of the intake after you correctly place the gasket on the lower intake on a untouched lower?

tmoss- I'll PM in you in about a month.

I might convert and get a cam also.

To answer your orginally question, the GT-40 flows 199 cfm "out of the box"...in comparison, the stock intake flows 137 cfm..thats 68.8% more air coming in..and for 3 bills, that's a dame good price..consider yourself lucky.. :nice:

If the intake and head runners do not match, you want the intake runners to be smaller and aimed within the head runner "window" so as not to see any "lip" of head runner opening which will increasingly disrupt the air flow path as velocity increases.

So what's the turn around period for the porting? Where can I get shipping prices from El Paso ,TX to Saint Louis, MO. So when the intake is ported the gasket is covering up some of the intake runner, but not much. At this point do you trim the gasket to the right size or is it OK like that? Thanks for all the info and sorry for jacking your thread Trophy Head.

Turn around now is 2-3 days. Shipping will be $15 or less each way UPS. If the ports are matched to a gasket, none should be in the runner space, but if it is, then trim it back.

I got a 97 Explorer intake for 150.00, and it is identical to the GT40 except it has EGR. I look forward to putting it on the car. For a real GT40, though, 300.00 is a deal and a half. IMO the GT40 style intake is one of the best for a non nitrous or N/A car. I am going to run mine with GT40P heads (which I got new with bigger exhaust valves for 400.00 {thanks Ebay})
