I have been seriously thinking of selling or keeping my 99 cobra and then also buying a 96 mystic cobra since i love how they look. What if i decided to just paint my black 99 cobra in a mystic paint? Would the value go down any? Or is there really one on it? What brand should i get. I read that BASF made the 96 paint, though you cant buy that exact shade, and that Dupont makes the 04 paint-dont know if you can get that exact one or not. There are obviously other knock offs to the factory colors. What brand would be close to either the 96 or 04 colors. I like the blue, purple, green, black colors they shift into. Also, about how much would i expect to pay to have my 99 cobra painted?? I love my car, and maybe i should just paint it, but i hate to not have it original anymore, as it is all original except the rims, which were on it when i bought it. Would i be ruining it by painting it mystic colors?? Please Help!!

i dont think itll decrease the value alot, but honestly i dont know much about that. but i know dupont stuff it pretty expensive, ive never looked into the color shifting paint but id expect to pay about $8K-$10K for a good quality job.

I remeber seeing a color-shift like the Mystic called Rainbow, it looks about 10x more extreme in how it shifts color compared to the new Mystichrome 03 Cobra. Probably around $10-$12 grand. From what I've heard, the painter needs to be almost God-like for it to come out right.

Hi, I have a '93 Cobra Clone that I painted with DuPont Mystic Purpleen, looks EXACTLY like the '96 Cobra. I am in the process of painting a '68 Vette Mystichrome. You are correct about the '96 and BASF, you can't get that exact paint from them, but like I said, the DuPont looks the same. The '04 Mystichrome on the other hand uses DuPont Mystichrome and that color/formula is out to the public and other paint companies can also duplicate that color.

Most paint brands carry "Color-Shifting" paint, such as PPG, Sherwin Williams, BASF, DuPont, etc. These paints cost anywhere from $320-$380/pint . I will have some Mystichrome for sale probablly for $225/pint, much cheaper. You must base the car black first, then mystichrome, then clear. You car is a perfect car to do because it's already black and would still look great if you left the engine bay/underhood/firewall, and under trunk black which would save you alot of labor/time/money. It normally takes around 3 pints to do a full car, so 3 pints for your vert would be perfect and you would have some left over for the future. You can email me at [email protected] if you are interested in this paint. Thanks and good luck....

Also, it is really not hard at all to use this paint, just base black then mystic then clear, any painter could do it. It also blends or spot repairs great, some people think it's impossible or very hard to repair this paint, it's actually just as easy as any other color.

Actually, it might (should) be easier to match colors during rapair.. considering its there isnt one SINGLE color that you are tyring to replicate. :)
