Tires with decent tread life and with awesome performance?

Okay, here's what I'm looking for since everyone asked:

- I plan on getting a set of dedicated drag tires for drag racing, so this means I don't have to worry about drag radials. If I did plan on getting DRs, I wouldn't use them for street use because of how fast they wear and the fact that they have no wet traction what so ever. You can spit on the pavement in front of you and drive over your saliva with DRs on and loose all traction.

- I don't auto-X, I just said I was looking for a tire that had auto-X type performance. This means that they can be pushed and the car won't loose control.

- Since I'm not rich, I can't afford Pilots or Potenza S03 Pole Positions every two years or so, so I'm looking for something that maybe could last, umm, three hopefully? Note that I do use snow tires, so these performance tires might last a few more seasons then normal.

I got Goodyear Eagle GTHRs and they seem to be pretty good. I've had no problems hooking on dry pavement, and they stick well on all but slushy snow. I've nailed some pretty hard turns on them too. I originally had 245/50/R16, and they sucked. The car felt like it was floating. I went back and got 225/50/R16, and now the car hold the road like a demon, even at high speed on the highway in windy conditions. They are rated to 130 mph, and I think have a 40,000 or 50,000 mi. tread life. They get my vote. :nice:

Ummm....my Nitto's are perfectly fine in the rain. I drove from michigan to kansas last summer and dealt with some very heavy rain and sitting water. As long as you arent a dumbarse you will be fine if they arent bald. And like I said, I have been autox'ing &road-racing on my dr's and they have held up awesome. They stick so much that it shows how soft my suspension setup is. The nitto's will last at least 2 seasons as long as you arent burning out on them all the time.

I have Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 on my rear wheels right now, I also have them for the front, but I haven't converted to 5-lug up front yet, so the rims wiht the tires are not on yet.

My g/f has them on her car, nice tire, has lasted about 2 years now, with still plenty of thread left. I got mine for $89 a piece at tirerack.com here is a link tot hem, i don't know if it will work or not...

Exuse me. How fast could it possibly be. I have no trouble with LS1s.

Did you not read what the man said, a lot faster then anything here... :rlaugh: ;)

I'm running firestone firehawks 295 50 R15 and had no problem pulling 2.0 60' times... I'm not so sure how they'll do now, with the car being rebuilt, but that's not too shabby with stock suspension and the ****ty track in orlando. I have roughly 9,000 miles on them and they still look new.

Michelin Pilots are the way to go. I got 25k out of a set on my Firebird Formula 6-speed - (a lot faster car than anything on here). That's why I put them on my '65 with 5.0 and suspension upgrade.

Michelin's are great for cornering and such, but they are a harder rubber and carcass construction. They want too much for thier tires, but I will say Michelin's are the best tires made.
65conv50: As far as Formula being "a lot faster car than anything on here" whatever, I bet I could show you fast. Maby I'm wrong, let us know next if you ever go to the Atlanta Dragway in Commerse, GA, now that you made the claim, now I am challenging you to back it up. Just because it's faster stock, doesn't mean it can hang with something modded on here. Sorry, but any car that can be driven 25K on any tire without burning them bald either is weak or the driver is weaker. BTW, a 5.0 suspension upgrade isn't the best idea, maby an aftermarket 5.0 suspension, but not a stocker. You can always pick "them" out of a post.

I have run the Michilen Pilot sports A/S in the past And i do like them. They don't last as long as some of the kumhos but will out perform them night and day. Currently I am running Falken Azenis Sport which wont last me long at all but have incredible handling. I have a new set of Michilens for sale cheap if anybody wants them
