Melbourne area stangs

AutoX results from GIR jan 18th

It started out a crappy day with a steady rain(most of glenn's runs were wet) but stoped and turned out to be a perfect day for autoX. In SM there were 4 engine swaped(heavy modded) civics and 4 other imports and my plain old mustang...To the civic boys dismay the big old mustang bested them all again with a 66sec run. I had SM cleared by a full second, it was funny when the second place civic had to load his car back up on his trailer, and i just jumped in my car and went home(drove in on the race tires). Hope a good time was had by all, gave glenn a couple of ride alongs(he was in the car for a 65 sec run, but there was a timing issue and got a rerun).

Yeah, Dave got a good track. I had to drive on a soaked course for runs 1 and 2 and only on my 3rd run was there any dry spots at all. By the 4th run the course was drying out and I was able to get almost decent traction in most sections. I had to struggle to break out of the 70 second range. Even though I ran a 69 I hit a cone on the final run. :(

Dave, thanks for the rides. I was impressed with how strong your motor ran for being so close to stock. Your car pulls very nicely out of turns. It made me want to throw rocks at my motor! Now that I have my car handling well I will have to address the engine's shortcomings. Oh well, it IS a work in progress still.

I hope to see you at another event kicking Honda butt soon.

I'll be at the March, and May CFR events there., I'm going to try and make the martin event, but im commited to run the full JAX points events this year. so i might have to skip that one.

Sounds like you guys had fun :) Do either of you know if there will be any events at Palm Bay this season? If so, I'll try to run a few of those.

Palm Bay is still up in the air as of now. I am still working through some of the folks at BCC trying to get SCCA back in there. We should know something in the next week or so.

No, but some stupid rice did. They decided to do some BK tray drifting and messed up the skidpad I believe....so BCC gave the ax to SCCA... :nonono:

I see, thanks for the info, not sure of the lingo(BK tray drifting?).
That sucks that we got booted for it :notnice: Chalk another one up for the idiots of the world.:nonono:

Yeah, ain't that the truth. About the tray drifting part... The front wheel drive boys discovered that if they put some plastic fast food trays under their rear tires, they can swing their rear ends out and drift. The guys at the skid pad used Burger King trays... The plastic heated up and all and melted onto the track I assume.

Although it was stupid to do at such an event...this is actually fun as hell to do. :D I've done it acouple times in my friends older Accord, and it's quite entertaining, kinda like your on ice. :nice:

That clears things up a bit. I'm not sure what explanation I expected when I asked, but that wasn't it.:nonono: I would've never thought of something like that.

Results of JAX autocross on JAN 25th. We had 119 cars show up(too many) 17 in SM alone. The SM class was 1 mustang(me), christian in his civic hatch(JDM Motor) 2 more civic hatchs with same motor, and 5 Wrx's(two were sti's).

At the end of the day the highest ranked Wrx was 4th, 3rd went to a integra, 2ed went to christian in his civic, and with the old detroit iron 1st place in the biggest class went to the lowly mustang. The wrx guys were a little taken back, but good sports. I had SM covered by a FULL second. 47.7 to Xian's 48.8. Its was a good day, to say the least.

Way to go David!!:worship::hail2::flag:

thanks guys, my raw time was good enough for about 6th overall(out of 119). Pax falls to 17th(SM has a nasty multiple). One guy asked if i had a supercharger, when i told him the engine was stock, he was shocked.

Just goes to show you what 3 yrs with the same car(and not changing to much) will do. the driver just got good, i wonder what i'd run with a decent car? but the old horse has been good to me and im riding her all year in SM(gonna try to win this one)

Gonna try to win? I suspect that you've got a pretty damn good chance at it unless I can get the hatchcrap moving faster :nice:

I don't know how long it's been since some of you guys rode with David but I swear to god that he breaks the laws of physics with that Mustang... then again maybe he's just got things rigged with timing... :p

Anyway, good event with a huge turnout and a nice long course. My time was OK and I was pleased with it until I heard David's 47.7... seriously though, Congrats again on the win!!

BTW, looks like I pulled 18th or so for the day and 26th in PAX. Not great but getting better...

Hey guys.. It's been a long time since I've posted on here. I see you all are still into the AutoX stuff. I heard that BCC hacked SCCA usage of the skidpad. Is there anywhere else that is somewhat local that is hosting the events now?
I'm fairly interested in giving AutoX a go in the 5.0! ( Eric Kebbel's old blue-n-silver 'stang )

Hope this works..

Last I heard Glenn was trying to get SCCA back into the BCC facility. Right now they are running the East Coast events in Deland. I too was looking at making a go of it this season, but I'm just too lazy to drive all the way to Deland!:D

Eric's old stang is looking good as ever. :nice:

How far away is Deland? I'm not too interested in driving hours to AutoX.

In a few days, I'll have my "CAI" tube on the car. It's just a 3" exhaust pipe, I believe... bent to fit correctly. I got it from Eric. I cleaned it up and painted it with mid-gloss black 1200* engine enamel. Looks real nice. Just waiting on the blue rubber connector things that I had to order from APC (gag) today at work. After all the shops I called looking for those damn things, APC was the only place that had them... amazing.
