Wish my Stang was faster

well isn't this thread moot with the new GT coming out with 300hp ? i mean it looks to me like Ford knows the GT is lacking in the power department and boosted it up to compete with the ever growing hp craze. That's also why they have the Cobra AND the Mach 1. so if you think the GT is slow(er) (which i agree with) you can always go out and get a mach 1 or late model cobra and be ahead of the game. I know the first thing i do when my car is paid off a little more is go buy a Cobra. I couldn't buy one right off the bat becuase of funds. But if had the $ for a cobra or mach i would have never bought the GT

WHATTTT the Mustang is slow. You need to go back to mid to late 70's and early 80's, I cringe at the thought. Stock GT's are god for low 14's to high 13's that is faster than alot of cars out of the 60's. A car is always gonna be slow if you want to go faster, but for the price and perfomance its a well rounded car. And to go fast it costs money, so I would have liked a Cobra but my wallet can't quite do that, but I can mod in stages with my GT. And if your havin problems with Hondas I don't think its the car!(J/K :rlaugh: ) I know the frustration when you pull up next to an LS1 or a new EVO or a Supra. But the Stang has way more sex appeal than a Camaro or any Honda. So next time you look over and see one let your lady up from your lap then put her back down to work and and give a snide grin and say its the car!!!!!!!! :spot:

I out run Camaros all the time. I dont have a power adder installed yet(I have one it just isnt on yet). I sure dont get out run by any 6 cylinders( Maybe a freaky Grand National one time and a totally wild Supra) but for the most part there are no run of the mill 6 cylinders out running my car even when it was stock. The only Camaros that out run my car are the SS mosels and they usually cant do it in the quarter they need a little longer than that to catch up. You cant really compare the SS to a GT IT WOULD BE MORE FAIR TO COMPARE THE TOP OF THE LINE CAMARO TO THE TOP OF THE LINE MUSTANG COBRA. We all know who wins that race to any distance.

Werd....

BTW, you DID know how much power the GT had BEFORE you bought it, right?

Get an intermediate pipe, some pullies, LT's and a plenum/TB and come back and say your car isn't fast.

Sadly to say, it's faster than a great percentage of cars out there. But, there's always someone faster than you, so don't fret it.

Damn sanman, your avatar is killing me :rlaugh:
BTW menasci have a dr. gas mid pipe on is GT i think.
I also think that 260HP for a V8 is not that much. But why is it that you want your car to be faster than anything on the road?? I fixed my self a target in mods and i ll stop after that. I m almost there. First i dont want to spend a ton of cash on the car and i m doing it for me, to have fun driving it and feeling it. Anyway, i never street race, so what is the point to be the fastest. 99% of people out there, when they see and hear your car, they say: damn that thing must be so fast :D
Be happy with what you have :nice:

Take a look at my sig.
Not too bad.
4.10's, Hypertech, blah blah blah.
But the Stang still ain't fast enough compared to most cars.
I mean sure I can beat most cars out there but not by that much.
So many 6-cylinder cars out there are just as quick.
I love my stang don't get me wrong.
It's Black and real mean looking but jeez! It should be a freakin beast bone stock. Why do we have to spend a bunch of freakin' money on endless mods just so we don't lose as bad as we did stock?
Yeah, I could replace the Flowmaster C/B for a straight through muffler but what does that get me? 5 hp ok 10? big deal!
And I know I don't have nearly as many mods as most Stangers here.
Perhaps I should just get S/C for 4 Grand :nonono:
That's pretty sad! An 8 cylinder Mustang GT requires a Blower just to compete with a stock LS1.
At first it's fun to add mods and get all excited about the gains (If any).
After most of us blow a bunch of $$ on each 5-10HP mod we could have
just got a used vette and left it at that. (Yeah but where's the fun in that, right?)
I'm so glad I've got a Big Bad Loud American Muscle car so I can be as fast as a Honda, yay!
Oh well, just my rant for now, Flame on. LOL

Ok, well I was looking at your mod list and this is what I have come up with. All of your mods aren't really much of performance mods. Not meant to flame here, just hear me out. I understand you wish you had more power stock, but we don't and you chose the mustang as your platform. Stop wasting your money on 20% tint and crap like that (shifter ball, etc.) and get the whole C&L intake system, plenum and all, then you will be gettin some gains. Looks mods are only good for ricer horsepower. Have a nice day.

Check my sig. My car is fast enough to throw your ass back in the seat. It gets good gas mileage and looks good too. Do I wish it was faster? Sure, but just how much $ will that cost and how often would I get to use that power here where I live. Not very often.

It depends on what level of performance you want to achieve. I have chosen not to dump $10-$20k into my GT to make it really run and be reliable. By the time I got done with that I'd still have a Mustang, which I love and is great for some things but let's face it, it's not the highest all around quality.

If you want to step up, get away from the pony cars and go to a C5/ZO6. ZO6 is more bang for the buck than you can imagine, especially once you start modding.

I personally like the Gt's . yes even more so than the Cobra. For me I bought this car as a toy to mod. I could have bought what ever I wanted, Cobra , Mach ect.. but I bought it used and save the extra cash for mod's. I think the best thing of modding a GT is the personalization of it , both look's & perf. wise. Yes I think's it's underpowered stock , but it's a classic, yet new american muscle car. The 4.6 has gob's of potential, but there will alway's be someone faster.

Anyone now day's can have a fast car as long as they are willing to pay the price for it.It pisses me off when I go to the Ford show's and there are new Cobra's & GT's there that are sitting with the hood's up and people acting like it's a fast hot car when they (PERSONALLY) have not done anything to it except make the monthly payment.I have no problem running with 99 & 01 Cobra's now, win a few lose a few, but once the blower and a few other mod's are done I'll be eatin the stock Mach's and 03 Cobra's and will have something unique and probably about 10-15k less invested in it than when they bought it new. Don't get me wrong I absolutly love Cobra's & Mach's ...I think they rock !!

That's just my take on it.....and not flaming anyone including my fellow brother Stangers.

Please! I thought you were talking about a pre PI GT till I saw your sig. You dont have **** to worry about. If your car is so slow, I'll let ya take mine for a spin, then you will appreciate your HP. I mean there will always be a car out there who is faster, but stop comparing yourself to GMs. If GMs are so fast and cool then why couldnt they sell them and ultimately have to discontinue them? I mean they can smoke a GT stock for stock, but they are hunks of junk. The interior is crappy, their T-tops rattle and leak (hence the name "rattleboxes") and just all around arent as well built. People buy Mustangs cause they are the fastest for the price, and because people like to mod them themselves. They are fun cars to work on and everytime after I do a mod I have this great feeling of self accomplishment. Hell, I smoked an auto LT1 when I had bald ass tires. That was my fav race so far. If you still feel bad, go race some dumb ass ricers who's mouths are bigger than their engines and you will feel a lot better, I promise.

i had a 94 cobra back in 94 & i could pretty much smoke all the stuff there was out then; it was nice being able to feel like i had the fastest car around. but, looking back, i believe it had about the same hp that the new gt's are now putting out stock (260-270ish). so yeah, competition is stiffer now, but that's a good thing, cause if it wasn't, the new 05 mustang would have the same 4.6 2v in it. its also nice not to have to fork over that cobra payment every month that was a little over twice what i am paying for my gt now.

The problem is that the turbo 4 and v6 japanese cars have come so far so quickly, that ford is playing catchup right now with the 4.6. That's why they slapped a blower on the 4v and the '05 has the 300 hp 3 valve as the base GT motor. I would not be surprised if we saw a 350-400hp N/A (5.0?) Boss stang in the future, as well as big hp Cobra's and (oh please GOD!!!) a Shelby GT500 with 500 hp? I think that will be the minimum HP to bring to the table for a future blown (5.0?5.4?!) 4v, as Chevy will surely be building a 500hp Z06 for 2006 or 7. If anybody at ford is reading this, build me a black 06 or 07 Cobra or GT500 vert with a 500hp 4 valve for under say $45-50k and I'm there!

hehe, i hope so.

Just drop a 4v motor in your car, add some good bolt-ons, dynoe tune and BAM! 330+ RWHP. Power problem solved. That is, until a modded LS1/SRT-4/vette, etc..outruns you. The need for speed gets worse the faster you go. Look at me, 03 mach 1 motor, 295 RWHP, and I still think my car is slow!

Seems to be alot of "well I really don't run the 1/4 but heres what I think answers here" So let me tell you what I know. I traded a WS6 for my GT. I have a good friend who owns and races a vert WS6, COMPLETELY stock. I never ran my WS6, but knew when I bought the GT that it wasn't anywhere near as fast. Got a good deal and had some probs with the WS6 that didn't have to do with performance is why I traded. Anyway.......I know many who race (as in drag strip) their GT's with many bolt-ons and barely break 14's, while my buds WS6 vert runs 13.4 bonestock. Face the facts, you are not gonna compete with an LS1 without a PA, unless you get suspension and motor hooked perfect, and learn how to drive. Buy a SC or a LS1. Otherwise, DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT. At least you'll look cool! ;)

Heh, this is kinda funny hearing him complain about the GT being slow. Try driving this a 98 Nissan 200SX with a whooping 80-90 FWHP. I've driven a V6 Stang, and its quick after driving the 200SX, but then again Im 16, so I get what I can afford, and hopefully I will be getting a 94-95 5.0 or maybe a 00 V6
