Steeda Tri Ax in 04

I installed a Steeda Tri Ax in my 04 and although it shifts great it is much noisier than I remember any shifter change I have done before.
I have exerienced the typical (at least what I call it) on other cars when removing the stock rubber mounted lever, etc., but now I hear so much trans noise I can almost hear the gears spinning and moving. I hear what sound like drive line slop, etc. Is this normal for the T56?

Also when I did the swap the boot mount is not flat. It looks like the bracket is bent from the bolts being overtightened. Is this normal?

It's normal for the Tri-ax...It's just noisy by nature...some people have put rubber washers on the handle bolts and there are a few other tricks to try to quiet it down...Mine doesn't bother me anymore cause I can't hear it over the exhaust... :D

I just installed the mrt shifter last week and I also noticed alot of noise being tranferred thru the shifter. I have an 02 gt but it sounds like we have the same noise...I guess its a normal thing since others who have made the shifter switch also hear the noise too..I will try making some sort of dampener in the future, but for now I cant hear a thing when the radio is turned up !!! :)

C'mon guys, the sound of the gears meshing under power is cool, it's part of the whole muscle car deal... I miss the unique sound of solid lifter engines, hearing the strain of high grade steel bearing up under the load and strain of an engine wanting to run!

Cool for some, but if you don't like it, the fix is really easy: Take a 2-3" piece of felt, dynamat or something similar, as wide as the shift lever, and place it in between the shift lever and shift lever mounting bracket (i.e., sandwitch it in between the two metal pieces and bolt her back together). It's the vibes are telegraphing up through your shifter, making it sound a lot louder. By sticking the buffer in there, it stops a lot of the noise...

Good luck.

Noise reduction on a Tri-Ax

When you mounted your Tri-Ax did you remove the rubber cover from the stock shifter and put it on the Steeda? I don't mean the cover that screws on. I mean the smaller piece that stretches over the shifter. I just finished a Tri-Ax install on my 04 Cobra. It's much quieter than my 02 Saleen. I don't remember the Saleen having the smaller rubber piece. Hope that helps.
