hello guys and gals.

i have a few questions on how to really polish my ride up. make it look extra sexy.

so, what technique do you guys use to wax your cars and get em shining really good?

what wax do you use? any kind of PREP work before waxing? what do you use for a cloth to wax with?

also, what is the best product for shining your tires? i just put my 17x8 black bulitts on my laser red stang with a set of BFG KDW 245/45/17's and i need to lower the car for em to look really great but i want to wax her up and make her shine so any help would be very much appretiated.

thanks in advance!

Nate,

Got some pics of those black bullitts on your car? I am considering replacing my stock bullitts with 18x9 and 18x10 black wheelreplica.com bullitts. I will probably go with 275s up front and 305s out back.

Anyway, the basis for any "show car" finish is in the prep work. The paint on late model Mustangs is pretty soft so you can get away with milder abrassives. My favorites in order of abrassiveness from least to most are Meguiars #9 swirl mark remover, #82 swirl free polish and finally #83 dual action cleaner polish. All of these can be applied by hand but are best used with a machine like the Porter Cable dual action polisher. You can find more information on the machine at http://www.properautocare.com/porcabpolac.html.

After the prep work I usually follow it up with a glaze like Meguiars #7 show car polish. It contains oils that level the surface by filling in slight imprefections and poors in your paint and leaves behind a nice rich gloss. Glazes in themselves don't provide any protection so they have to be topped with a wax or sealant. For this I like Meguiars #26 high tech yellow wax. It is a carnauba and polymer blend which gives good durability and a deep, wet look.

See for yourself.

that is a beautiful car man. very nice, and that IS the polished look i want.

as far as pics, i dont have any taken yet. they look really good on my car but i have a few more things to do before they will look REALLY good. i have to drop the badboy with some steeda springs and paint my calipers red, because right now the calipers are UGLY as hell. i am going for a black and red look and i have to get rid of the decals on the bottom of my runners cuz they are black/grey colored. look a bit 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'ty. so i have a bunch to do. i just got the car a month ago so i am just getting started. i have tons planned.

ill take some pics for ya to see how they look on a red stang. they look mean i think. just something about em that dont look all glam and sparkly and just plain muscle. with a red body and dark tint and black rims, i think it just looks sweet.

ill post ya some pics this weekend.
thanks for the reply and the great info on the shine!

Good choice on the 10" rears!! The 8's are just too darn narrow 94-up Mustangs.

And yes, prep is far and away the most important thing when you want your car to shine...That means a good clay, a nice polish (or combination of--depending on your finish), and then a wax (#26 or #16 are both great choices and the easiest step of them all). :nice:

I do this on my 00 vert (and it is a show car, well at least it has been in/won shows):

(all meguiars)
Wash with Rich Suds
Claybar
clean paint w/step 1 cleaner
Polish w/step 2 polish
Wax w/Gold Class paste

Tires:
clean rims w/megs Hot Rims, use soft brush for brake dust removal
Clean tires with Westleys bleche white in an a can
Use Meg's gold class endurance tire gloss on tires (the liquid, not the spray)

I have to check into the NXT, I keep hearing really good things about it. Is it really a wax, or more like Zaino?

Also, I keep hearing good things about the Mr Clean auto dry wash. I'm thinking about getting one for the filter, and still washing with a bucket & mitt....

edit: I forgot to mention that paint/rims aren't the only things to detail. Make sure you do the mirrors, cowl and other black trim with something like Meg's gold class trim detailer to keep them black & shiney (also good to remove wax from them). Also, make sure to clean the wheel wells (if using bucket, do this last. I have a different mitt for this as well) and use some vinyl protectant on them....

ok guys heres the pics of my car.

remember, it is all stock as of now except the K&N filter and the rims and the tint.

many things planned. next thing is installing my bassani catbacks, and a pro50 shifter. then CAI, and pullies. then a fordchip and that will be it for a while.

keep in mind, it needs washed and waxed, and definitly gotta get rid of the decals on the bottom under the doors. i dont like em. tell me what you guys think of em. the pics really dont do them justice. they have a nice glossy shine to em. and the lip really shines.

also, thanks for the advice green, appretiate it.

could you guys maybe tell me the process in order of what i should do from start to finish to get that show room shine?

thanks!

EDIT: also for 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me's and giggles, in case yall want to know the details on mah car. its an 02. i paid 13k for it with 12k miles, and i got it 1 month ago and i love it more than my wife LOL <not really>

heres the pics.
not that great but all i can get right now lol.. damn sunlight.

Yeah, I agree on the decals, they gotta go. Otherwise, looks good :nice:

And as far as procedure, I wash/detail the outside after the inside. I do the tires & black trim after the rest of the body. A good thing to pick up is a california car duster, works great to get off loose dust particles. Also, Quik Detailer or a similar product (Mothers has one too, I can't think of the name off hand)-for quick touch ups (mud, bird droppings, bugs, etc). I go through a ton of that stuff with shows & events!

Another tip-stick a few dry towels between the bumper & taillights while drying. There's always some water that drips down there, and it'll leave spots if you don't keep going back to dry it!
