I just installed the Accufab throttle body along with the Dragon plenum. Installation went well. The car runs great (more responsive) except for a whistling sound when I first accelerate. It sounds kind of like the squeeling of a slipping belt. Will this sound go away with usage? Or do I need to fix something? Any suggestions?

I have seen alot of threads talking about the "whistle" you get from it. Not sure about the break in part, but I know your not the only one with the issue. Didn't see anything about a fix though. Do a search and see what you come up with!

I have a cold air and TB, and mine whistles as well....your not gonna get rid of it, mine has dont it for about 2 months now! I kinda like the sound...and it does seperate you from others who dont have other induction mods! ;-)

I have a dragon and accufab 75mm.. I can hear a somewhat faint whistle when accelerating mostly below 2000 rpm, but it isn't that loud or annoying. Check for vacuum leaks and that everything is fairly tight.. did you clamp the stock intake over the t/b well?

I re-checked all the hose connections. Everything is tight. I notified Dragon Perfromance Parts about the problem. They said that many customers had the same experience and that there is nothing to worry about. Still, the sound is annoying.

It's the vein in the Dragon plenum.

Both Dragons I tested did the same thing.

On the second test, I had 2 guys say "hey, you didn't tighten something"... I checked and everything was tight. I then leaned over the car and gave it some manual throttle, and you can tell that the whistling is coming straight from the plenum. You can even put your hand on it and "feel" the whistleing.

Sounds like a mini blower.

=\ you forgot about us already? We (me and dallasgt01) were the 2 boneheads that know nothing about cars and was just trying to help... :D

The whistle is the insane amount of air moving through your motor. Either keep it on and keep the hp gains or take it off and be slow.

This type of thread reminds me of Mustang owners who complain about gas milage after installing a blower

Later.

How about I exchange the Dragon for a Accufab or C & L Plenum that offer the same horsepower gains without the annoying noise?

Thanks for the advice anyways :notnice:

Mine whistled with just the Accufab TB and C&L plenum. Then I added my Steeda Cold Air kit and its even louder, but it only does it taking off or if you are running a constant speed and tap the gas a bit.

Looks like C&L guys have it too

Owell, I have the same whistling!! what can I do :spot:

Why didnt you get the accufab plenum. My friends car had the exact same problem you have and he HATED it after a few months. It will not break in or go away. Its like the terminator.....it will never quit....ever! Send it back and get the Accufab. They fixed theirs by providing a smoother finish on the inside. The others are rougher and the air velocity causes a terrible annoying whistle. Sell your plenum on ebay, or take it to work and use it for a paperweight. They are far less annoying as paperweights. Im sure some people lovem, but most will whistle!

yeah, almost sounds like a quiet little turbo, but like i said, mine is by no means loud or in any way annoying.. i like hearing it.. I know theres plenty of air flowin thru there;)

Hey guys as discussed above....I only notice the whistle when you just touch the throttle...not really noticable unless you are listening for it.

I spent 30min checking lines the connectors after the install..then I remembered this thread. sounds kinda cool..it only last for just a second.

I don't have a whistle on either GT - my 02 with the Accufab or my wife's 01 with my old plenum, now port and polished. Just some whooshing of air, but not a whistle.
But I do get a whistle from something under the hood on my 02 after it warmed up, only at idle, with the A/C off. If you turn the A/C on, which brings the idle up just a bit, it goes away. And if you touch the throttle at all, it goes away. I don' think it's related to the plenum however...

Mine whistles and I have a BBK 75mm and Mac CAI with stock plenum. My brother has a 70mm BBK and a CAI and he hated the whistle so we compared the stock and BBK unit and noticed the stock had a hole in it maybe 1 mm in dia., so we drilled a hole just like it in his BBK. No more whistle, idled better too. I like the whistle, sounds cool?maybe I am stupid or different?
