I'm a new stang owner and also new to this board. Wanting to know how bad our AODE is and if its really necessary to use a tranny cooler and any other tips u throw in are helpful too, THANXXXX
Oh BTW its a '94 GT Convertible. Not planning any big mods...for now, just the basics (i.e. pulleys, 3:55 gears, K&N, headers-x-catback)

The stock aode is junk. Plain and simple. I opted to switch to the Art Carr Aode with converter. You can always add a shift kit and converter, but you will still have the one piece input shaft. That is known to break on cars with more power. It depends on how far you want to modify your vert. If your interested in a stock aode with a trans go shift kit, let me know. I have my old one with 27,000 miles on it.

Where does one aquire an Art Carr Trans? I want to keep my auto, but not the turd I have now.

Forgot to mention, I'm gettin it rebuilt right now and installing the shift kit and gears. Will be only mods for now, Low budget. It's gonna be my daily driver and the gas prices are really high right now. So for now, thats what i plan on doing to it. Should I invest in the cooler?

I have a B&M Supercooler 22,000 GVWR. Both Summit and Jegs sell them. Either use the return line, bottom one, to feed trans fluid to the cooler or use it by itself bypassing the radiator. It definitely made the car feel better by eliminating the sluggishness it would get after driving for awhile.

yeah a cooler with help you tanny live longer. If it is really hot where you live it is a must. That is one of the next things on my list when summer comes. BTW what gears did you go with?

Yea its been getting hot here. Its spring and the Temp has gone up to around 95 already here in west TX. So what kind of trans cooler would you guys recommend for me to buy for my tranny? I wont be doing much hot rodding and dont plan on taking it to the track and it gets really hot in the summer. I got the 3:55 gears installed. Sux being broke most of the time. I'm gonna have to buy the bolt ons one by one whenever I can find a good deal. SuperDust22 i like your exhaust setup, thats kinda what i want for my car. Thanx for all your input guys!!! :nice: :nice:

I got my 95 gt vert with about 48,000 miles on it,by the time it had 78,000 miles on it I had put on headers, exhaust, jet performance chip,gt-40 heads, accell power coil, cold air intake and pulleys and i never touched the aode tranny, besides putting one of those cheap b&m electronic shift kits on it,well to make a long story short .my aode finally bit the dust at 115,000 miles. So I dont guess all aode,s are crap I personally think it held up pretty good, because i definetly didnt take it easy on the poor aode,I will be installing a basic c4 with shift kit saturday,so i guess not all aode,s are crap.

BEST OF LUCK,Dan :nice:

 Lets drink to that too!! Yea well I'm a newbie in pretty much everything but im willing to learn and this forums is great because theres all these cool  Dudes that are willing to help out :hail2:

My aode was rebuilt in January...I just have become really lazy and havent touched the car since the trans came out. All of the parts are listed in my sig that had to do with the trans rebuild. I think my trans should hold up pretty well. :) I am adding a Perma-Cool transmission cooler - 21x10.5x1.5, just need to pick up a few more fittings and some steel braided line.

If you do not abuse the tranny like driving it at WOT with the OD off it should last around 100,000 miles maybe. A tranny cooler is usually recommended for all autos to keep the temp down prolonging the life of the tranny. Also regular fluid changes every 20,000 miles and filter change would also prolong the life of the tranny.

I got my car used so I have no idea how the person before me drove it or took care of it. After putting 50,000 miles the tranny started going on me around 110,000. I chose to get an AODE from Art Carr with a 3200 stall TQ, which after a month is finally in transit. Or you can order a rebuild kit from Art Carr and have a local installer reuild your tranny.

I have to say mickey took pretty good care of me,I got the tranny(extreme)aod with all possible upgrades,3000stall non-lockup,solid imput, manual valve body, sfi certified steel flywheel,24gvw trans cooler, temp gauge+shipping for 2,398.50.The converter is 700 alone this trans to build would cost around 3600 to build if purchased in pieces.I don't know if the price would be diff for a aode.I too ran my cooler in conjuntion with the radiator.
