OK, on my 98, I just developed an exhaust leak on my manifold gasket. Oh boy, what fun. I heard I need to drop the K-member to change it. Labor will cost me $400 if I don't do it. Is there another way? It is the driver side.

I have another alternative...but it is iffy. Headers. I already have a cat-back and h-pipe. I heard Headers aren't all they are cracked up to be on these motors....are they? L/T or Shorties...which ones? What power increases are legit? I saw 18 with L/T's on my 89.

Thanks guys.

Get longtubes. Kooks, or some other company that doesn't require removal to work on the bh. I don't have a before/after dyno with mine, but they sure do help out. Maybe not as much as on the 5.0s (on account of the stockers being really pinched off). If you do LTs, you do need to drop the K. If you just want to replace the manifold gasket (hard to believe you've actually broken it, you may want to try tightening the nuts...) you don't have to remove the K.
