It depends on your situation.

If you don't desparately need a new car right now, I'd wait. As discussed on other threads, the new 'Stang is increadibly improved over the old one, ride, handling , suspension, comfort, weight balance, HP, etc, etc.

If you can't wait, but need the speed, I would get an 05 GT and put a blower on it.

Thats dumb. If you are going to by a new current GT and add a blower, you'd have to be retarded not to buy the Cobra. Not only is the Cobra a 4 valve motor, but it has forged internals, a blower, IRS + better suspension, and a better transmission. It definately worth the xtra bucks over a GT if you have plans to go fast. A GT cant get much more power than a stock Cobra without blowing up the stock the motor, the Cobras have huge potential.

Anyway, I'd buy the '04 Cobra. Great cars, and better looking than the '05s.

If you could buy a new 2004 Cobra convertable, would you do so? Or wait till 2006 to get a Cobra if available. Give me your reasons why.

Thanks, Crit

While this thread has derailed in places, my response is:

I've driven an '03 Cobra extensively and then chose an '04 Mach 1---money wasn't the issue. The Cobra is an honorable attempt, but misses the mark.

The clutch is torture, the car is heavy and ponderous, the SC sounds like granny's vegetable blender, is a gas hog, and is only slightly faster than a Mach 1 or GM product. Most of us don't spend our time doing 1/4 mile dashes.

I suggest waiting to see if Ford comes to its senses and produces a "refined" package in '06 that has its act together. While I don't care for the '05 GT, it does cry out for a Boss/Mach/"Cobra" version. That would be excellent.
Carry on.

The other option is the lease offer that gauruntees you an 07 cobra which are supposed to be a limited number. Either way it was designed for buyers like you. Check it out. If you don't like the new cobra your not under obligation and can either keep the 04 or sell it. And in the mean time you can drive a sweet car

With the 05 was styled like the 60's ITS bodystyle will be considered outdated before the current 04 style ever is. the 05's body style is a step back from the 04.

(note to the ignorant - look closely , I said "bodystyle", not the powertrain or suspension)

First, we don't know if the new Cobra will have a blower
Second, we don't know if it will have forged internals
Third, we don't know that it will have a 4V motor
Fourth, we do not know that it will have better suspension (but we can assume)
Fifth, We do not know that it will have a better transmission (again, we can assume).

My point is simple. To call someone dumb and spout off equipment a car will have even though no one knows what it will have makes one sound...well...dumb.

Now, everyone play nice or I will be forced to break out the :lock:

I would get the new one and the styling wouldn't be outdated so quickly!
Thats the beauty of owning a mustang. They never go out of style. :flag:

Having said that. I'd get a new cobra now and enjoy it. We dont know what the new cobra will be or when it comes out.

(note to the idiot - keep telling yourself the 05 isn't as good as the 04 :nice: Who knows, you might believe it eventually)
