150K TOO MANY MILES?

  • Sponsors (?)

my car has 194k on it....it runs great. as long as it was taken care of it will be fine. there will be more things that need to be replaced if they havent already...like water pump, harmonic balancer, but you should be fine if the car was taken care of

Thanx for the reply, I know I'll have to check compression and all, but he advises the car now has a tremec in it. Anyone have any comments on the price he's asking?

My 89 vert has never had the valve covers off and has 166k. The car runs flawlessly. Dont be too afraid of high miles, just check everything over very closely. The 5.0 is a great engine if it has been well taken care of. Ask for maint. records ( shows care), do compression check ( shows condition of engine), Pull out air filter and check air box for dirt and wear, and just use your best judgement. Price is key! There are low mileage Cobras out there, for around 8-10k. Good luck...

that price is too high for the miles.
i got my 90 for 4.5K w/140K, but it was completely stock and had ALL the recepiets for everything ever done, down to wiper blade changes.

yours is also NOT a Cobra... :D To the original poster...have a machine shop rebuild the motor for like $800.00 and slap the parts back on and the car will live another 150K...

HAH! I got my car with 250k+ on the stock '85 motor, and to my knowledge (which is at least from the previous owner) not even the valve covers have ever been taken off. That being said, my car has a previous best time of 14.7 at 98mph, and that's before the mods in my sig, and that's literally only 2 months before i aquired the car. Since then i've put at least 5k more miles on it, plus all those mods, but i have yet to race it.

Hey, i dont doubt that i'm on borrowed time with this motor, but at least it's still kicking some serious arse. I'm doing a compression test as soon as i can get ahold of a gauge, but i expect it to be pretty good.

As for the Cobra, i agree that's a high price for that many miles, but mileage is only relevent to collectors IMO.

Good lord, 8k for a 150k mile car? I know it's a Cobra but still... I got my 94 GT Convertible with 81k miles for $6k, MINT condition, never been raced or anything. I agree with everyone else, try to talk him down a little bit, I know it's a Cobra but still...

well its always good to try and find a car with less miles but 150k shouldnt be a problem..like someone said as long as it was taken care of it should be fine

i sold my 88 lx with over 300k original miles and it still runs strong

go have a compression check like u said and see if you can talk the guy down in price =)

my cobra had 60k when i dumped it....keep looking thats to high..its prob beat to piss...why do you want a 95 cobra? they are slow, i sold mine for 9k 2 years ago with 65k miles...and i dont miss it at all! however i do miss my 00gt!!!!!

To OOGTDUDE I have had 7 5-ohs since I was 17. Im 32 now and would finally like a Cobra, for all the obvious reasons. It doesnt have to be a 95.
I could get another lx, or gt, but I just want to walk a different path.
I've also had the Chevelles, crotch rockets, and a Grand National. So it will just be different.
