Gas mileage is horrable?!

Dont worry, i average about 180 a tank too, city driving, with a lead foot, and Its really not all that big of a tank. I can pull about 225 wiht some mixed highway/city driving. I do need to change the fuel filter though, its in my garage...waiting....oh well. Hope it gets better.

mines almost all highway miles. I get almost 300 to the tank. usually between 285-300 depending on my moods. you have to remember that city driving is all stop and go. accel, accel, accel. slurrp! slurrrp! SLURRRRP!

Clean your MAF sensor with electric contact cleaner but no touching...

If you got a k&n, maybe oil coated it throwing off readings. Richening it up.

my .02

I get 16mpg highway with 4.10s. I punch it a lot.
City nets me more @ about 17mpg.

You get better city than hwy?
I'm getting closer to 25mpg on the hwy with 4.10s and I'm driving around 80 or so.

rd02gt, what mileage are you getting exactly?Try filling it up, reset trip odometer, then when you get to a half a tank or whatever fill up again and divide trip total by gallons you had to put in to refill it.That would give a better idea of what's going on.

Driving habits effect fuel mileage imensely.

A friend of mine consistenly gets 190-200 miles to a tank of gas in his 88 GT with 3.55's. I have a 90 GT with 3.73's and I get 240-245 to a tank. He blips the throttle constantly when he pulls into a parking lot (which makes me crazy). or at a light. He says he likes how it sounds. Hten he complains he gets bad gas mileage.

I was having the same problem. My car was running extremely rich when I filled up with 93octane gas, you could smell the gas out the exhaust. So I went back to 87octane and ran two tanks with STP Fuel injector cleaner. I am now back up to 244 miles to a tank. My car has 72K on it, and it appears to be no where near a rich, no more smell. Just a thought for you

I was talking to a kid at my school that has a 98 GTwith just flows. He was telling me that he gets like 150miles to a tank of gas. He did a full tuneup minus fuel filter. Could a fuel filter make that big of a difference? BTW he is running snow tires, would that mileage? Just wondering

Thanks

I can usually go 290 - 310 before the needle bottoms out.
Was getting 22.5 - 23.0 MPG, but after I installed my Splitfire Triple-Platinum spark plugs I got 24.0 MPG.

Time for a tune-up. May be an O2 sensor going bad also.....Are you running rich?

I've been getting ~18mpg in my '00 GT since the day i got it used last year. It has some unknown chip plugged into the computer for the gears the previous owner put in, but i'll probably replace it with a Predator and see if that helps it out any.

well go figure, it doesnt matter rather i grive like a bat otta hell, or a grandma/grandpa. i will alaways get the same mpg no mater what. my car is lowered with weld in flows and 17 inch rims.. thats it :-(

ok i just did a tally from the little black book I keep in the car..

535.717 Gallons of 91 or higher gas
9273.7 Miles driven

17.31082 Miles Per Gallon.

Car Info: X pipe, K&N, 3.73's, some crappy 'custom' chip, auto tranny.

I don't always get on it, and I do mostly highway miles. I'm starting to think this car used to have a supercharger on it, and is programmed as such. I'd pull the chip out but I don't want to rack up the milage from the wrong gears, etc.. I'm starting to convince myself in getting a chip in a shop, or a tuner device. Changing shift points would be nice for the auto, and god even if I make back 2-3 mpg with the outrageous gas prices i'll be out of the red in no time.
