Hey gang, just got a new custom grind cam in and WOW, what a differance. My local dyno has software problems so I have to wait a couple of weeks for a test but..... I think the next thing I want to conquer is some rubber that hooks up better.

My wheels are cragar ss 15 x 8 in the back 15 x 7 in the front Current tires are BFG Radial T/As 245 60 15 in the back 225 60 15 in the front. I have added an auburn pro unit to improve traction and while that is a tremendous improvement, I want a better hook up. I'd like to stay with my current rims for the time being and am interested in tires that will likely get around 10K miles or more, but still hook up much better. Any ideas???

I know there are lots of options in 17 inch wheels and realize this is where I'm likely going to have to go. Still if anyone would have some ideas, it's you guys.

well, if you want tires that last decently and hook up BFG drag radials won't work... they generally last about 5000 miles (almost always under 10k). They're basically street legal slicks. They certainly do hook though.

Nitto drag radials don't hook as well, but they can last to about 30,000 miles, which is at least decent for street tires. I've heard good things about Kumho Ecsta 712s... they should hook much better than your BFG radial T/As and last a long time. Not quite a drag radial but should work for you.

the nittos 555R drag radials are awesome for street to strip. they get bout 10-15 thousand miles depending on how often u wanna show boat. the BFG drag radials are even better but lower miles and arent too great for street driving. a 275/50r15 should killer hook up.

these are pretty fair prices. they ship for free so thats good. if u have some hook ups u can get em for 20 cheaper.

what would happen if you dump the clutch @ 5K on a basically stock stang? how good are they? can someone give an example how they launch with these tires? thanks

BFG T/A comp drag radials, I got 295 50x15's in the rear and they hook up great for street and strip. Nitto's do not compare to the BFG T/A's. 69pony302 is right BFG drag radials dont last as long but who buys drag tires for the life of the tire? You buy them because the Hook up and kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!! As the saying goes "You cant have your cake and eat it to!"

whatever you do, do NOT get Kuhmo Ecsta 712s. they're a horrid tire. trust, i know many people who have owned them and none are happy with the grip after the first few months.

2 tires i can heartily recommend are Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (or the new 750) and the Yokohama AVSi Intermediates. i was able to pull 2.0 60fts on those tires and they lasted around 15k miles (with a LOT of racing).
