Hey, the name is Nick.

I am looking at a 94/95 mustang for my next fun car. I want to get into solo1/2 as well as little drag racing. :flag:
On average how much do the 94 and 95 GT's weigh(coup+manual)? I have read from 3200 to 3400 on these forums. Suprisingly lighter then I thought, I always thought mustangs of most years where at or a hair above 3500~lb's.
Is it possible to get the car at about 3000lb's flat before I have to start cutting the interior?(I would also be very interested in some weight numbers+pics from those of you who have givin your cars a good diet :D )
Also, I have heard of people who have swapped there live axel for IRS(and visa versa suprisingly..). Is it worth the hastle of finding and purchasing a cobra's IRS to increase my cars cornering and all around driving ability or would my money be best spent elsewear and just work with what the GT has..

Oh, and what is a GTS?

Thanks in advance. :nice:

As far as weight goes the 95GTS is the best out of the box. It is essentially a V6 Mustang (ie. no pw/pl, lighted visors, etc.) with a V8 engine and drivetrain of a GT. Weight can vary depending on what you take off and move around. See the sticky above for specifics and tips for weight removal of the 94-95 Stangs.

The IRS would not be worth the effort unless you are a serious auto x'er. There are plenty of suspension specialist that can set up a Mustang for any type of racing. Besides, the solid axle is stronger for the torque a V8 puts out and drag racing IMHO.

I weighed my car in at 3250 with me in it (im 180). My major weight recutions are:

Rear seat delete
no rear seat belts
gutted TRUNK
Alum heads
alum d/s
no ac
no smog
no front sway bar
no dog bone
o/r x pipe
some alum pulleys

Thats the major things that come to my mind fast. Keep in mind i weighed my car with 17x9 chrome cobra R's all around, they are a very heavy rim, i cant wait to see what it weighs with my welds.

actually changing out to a IRS isn't too practical for our years. There are more parts for a live axle anyway. IRS is just starting to come into the aftermarket scene, where as the tried and true 8.8 has been a mainstay for a decade already. Griggs, Maximum Motorsports, Steeda, Saleen, just to name a few make parts to out handle a 03 cobra.

also, just curious, but you said your next fun car. what did you have before. is this your first folly into the world of mustangs?

Id look iinto throwing everything i can get from maximum motorsports at it. give them a call or send them an email. Their site is www.maximummotorsports.com they will definatly be able to hook you up as far as handling goes and most of their stuff will probably save a TON of weight...big things to look at are gonna be getting weight off that nose. aluminum heads are a great weight loss. aluminum pulleys. delete the AC and smog will save weight. gut the trunk aluminum driveshaft, gonna wanna keep the fron sway bar or your autoxing days are over. Racing seats (carbon fiber/kevlar non adjustable) a new hood (carbon fiber :::jumps into flame suit:::) manual steering rack....some lightweight wheels etc....it can be done...

thanks for the welcoming. :)

hmm, are GTS's rare? Do they have a special badge and/or any way to beable to identify a GTS when shopping around? where the GTS's made in 95? Do they have a high resale value(compared to the regular GT's)?
On other car forums I keep hearing things like "with a few bucks in the suspenion and you'd besuprised how well it corners..". I have seen that almost quoted in many discusions about mustangs... Can anyon explain why this is? Did ford give the stangs really weak shocks/bushings/ect in respect to the chassi or... Or, is it just like most other cars on how they react to suspenion upgrading.. TBH, I dont really dont know what people meen by that..

Uh, I used to have a 68 chevelle, 454BB, t-350, 850speed demon carb, ect ect. I never was able to get the funds to finish it so I sold it.. Now I have a 77Camaro, 350SB, t-350. its a nice car and all but I am growing tired of it. Lately I have found myself enjoying driving my moms eclipse RS more then the camaro.. Plus, im sic of carberators and having to "hope" my car will start up. :p

there is no special badging on the GTS model. most times you will have to ask them. If it doesn't have power windows, power door locks, or a spoiler. they do have limited #s but as far as the resale value goes, nothing really any different. prolly a bit less considering it doesn't have the aforementioned luxuries.
