SO, i was at work and saw a GT with aftermarket tips. It was a 2002-03 DSG Convertible GT and i noticed it had the SLP Catback. I must say the SLP tips (all 18") come out at an upturned angle and look outta place as the budge upwards, but the quality is good  . So, i continue working and come back outside to the parking lot and am walking out of the store where i work (Target) and i hear a loud truck type exhaust which sounds REA::Y unrefined and "trucky". I turn around expecting got see a V6 F-150 or S-10, and to my surprise its the GT! :nonono: I must say i agree with the "to each is own" way of thinking, I mean had the taboo "x-pipe with Flows" setup for God's sake, so i could care less about what other people think. But it sounded really crappy and out of place. So, knowing that it has straight thru mufflers (yes i know they are really just resonators), i thought it would sound good at higher RPM's. So i waited for it to drive out on to the feeder road and get going to give it a second chance ot impress me.....Still sounded bad. Im very disappointed with the SLP catback and the way the tips turn upward. I'd definitely get Magnaflow or Bassani instead.

Cliff Notes - SLP Catback sounds like a truck and unrefined.

Unrefined and "trucky", huh? Thats how I would classify the SLP LM I had on my '01 Formula. I think it has something to do with quieting the whole engine down with the cats. The resonator(s) does nothing except to cancel some of the higher frequencies.

anyone in MD with SLP?
i want to hear

dkshadow says packs sound like a truck
:fuss:
My truck sounds like a truck. My friend has a Bassani Catted X and Magnapacks and it sounds good, im just not a huge fan of the setup. Sounds like the exhaust is trying to push air or sumtin and sounds way better up top than it does down low. To each his own, i say (except SLP hehe)

YOU Guys are killing me :( Unfortunatly I think you guys are serious. If a truck has a 5.8 and exhaust and a car has the same engine and exhaust would it sound the same :bang: yes my truck with flowmasters sounds like a stang :rlaugh: Please stop the :bs:

id agree with the description that they sound undefined. my best friend has them (SLP) on his 2003 GT. Raw might be a better word for it.
Ill keep my bassani header, bassani X, and magnapacks over his SLP anyday. and packs dont sound like they are "pushing air" down low. they just rumble away. and up top they sound the best outta any exaust IMO.

Yea, they sound extremely raw and unrefined like a Trans Am or sumtin. Also, its kinda like a v6 type of sound to it since its so UNsmooth. Just my opinion though.

I must say, personally owning the slp catback and xpipe, it is loud and sounds like crap. It sounded good with just the catback and stock h-pipe. Once I put on there x-pipe - damn the sound nearly doubled - and dont even think about the race pipes - i had them on for 2 seconds lol.

Also about the tips thing - he probably didnt have them properly adjusted
