I have a 94 V6 5spd. I blew the head gasket and ever since I got it fixed, its been running like crap. I have the oppertunity to drop a 5.0L from a fox body. The engine has 160000 km on it. (99 000 miles) The engine is stock and its a buddy of mine. He is willing to sell it to me for 400$ CND. (297$ USD). And we would install it ourselves. With the ECU and the exhaust, etc. I'm looking at under 1000$CND. What is your opinion on this. Good deal? Should I rebuild the engine before dropping it? How much would it cost to get it rebuilt. And one of my main concerns: Would the engine be too strong for the tranny and rear end? I know that both V6 and 5.0L Mustangs of that year have a T-5 tranny, but I heard that the gears are different in the V6.

Thank you.

I think that for the sake of saving money, go with the stock t-5 and rear end. But those will need to be upgraded sooner or later. I dont know about canada but in the US. its illegal to drop in a motor that is older than your year car.

All in all, I think you would cure alot of headaches by going with a carbed setup on this type of swap. Its definately possible to do the swap. Just try to look into all aspecty before taking the car apart.

TTT for ya anyways, let us know everything you have so far and we'll try to help with what you neeed.

Right now, I have the car. My buddy will sell me his 5.0L for like 250$US. I don't have the equipment to do an engine swap, he does and can help me do the swap. I was thinking of maybe beefing up the rear end. My concern is, will the tranny hold? I'm pretty sure the V6s came with a T5 but Im not sure if the T5s in the V6s have the same gears as in the V8s. Right now, it should cost me around 750$US. To me thats a pretty good deal. My concern is; will it be a reliable car?

On a side note; I have never heard of that law on older engine swaps. I dont think it will be a problem.

I have heard of that law, when I put in my 351w, I had to get my input shaft cut on t5 because the v6 sits up further than the v8, I ran into a lot of problems last year, the input shaft pushed my crank further into the engine, so I had to get alot of machining work done to correct it, around $1200, it also tore up my center force clutch, almost $400, so make sure you do plenty of researching before you perform this task.

mustangman33, what platform have you put your 357 in. sn95 or fox or other. And what part of chitown do you live in. later in the month, a bunch of us from the city are going to the track, If you wanna come your welcome.

that sounds great, I wanted to go to the track but I don't think they will let me run, I have a 95, carbed, and the tell me that they are really strict at route 66, and stay on the south subs, but I work in Elmhurst, when are you guys going to the track, I can take my 95gt, but it will not be fun because its completely stock.

Hey Im stock with the exception of gears and catback. So I gues then that Im modified lol. We should go heads up, should be fun. Usually the crew downtown likes to go to union grove because its close and they really dont do alot of tecking in on most cars. If it looks stock then they just put the #'s on the car and tell you to be safe. And whoever told you that route 66 is strict, then they are right. That why I dont go there.

To keeo to the tech part. when swapping in a 351 much like a 5.0, what were the main problems with the installation. Like wiring harness, or stuff like that.

I was able to keep all of my accessories, the ignition wiring was a pain, and since it was my first real engine swap I ran into alot of difficulties, but ignition was the only problem, everything else fell into place, if you wanna go with a 351w, you will need swap headers, swap oil pan, and thats about it, except if you efi, didnt wanna run into those issues so thats why I went carbed, next year I plan to put the 357w in my v6 vert, and want to go efi, so I will learn then. I have shaved door handles and hood locks, do you think they will check for modifications?

I'm going from a V6 to a V8 so I can't use any parts from the old engine and besides, the engine I'm getting is complete. I wanna know if the tranny in my 94 V6 is the same as in a 94 5.0?

Yep, the trans will work, but you will need the imput shaft cut, I took my car to Aamco and they were supposed to cut it, but he didnt do it right, and that caused me alot of grief, so make sure you have a good shop measure and cut it for you, or get the 5.0 input shaft, but other than that, they are the same trannys.
