Am i the first on on here to use AFR 185s on a 302? I like being different :D If I were you I'd get the 58cc, stud mount 165s. You won't be sorry especially if you get an Ed Curtis cam. U sed fox VCs on my AFRs. I had to use 2 3/8" spacers on my intake to clear them but I was already planning on using the spacers. I don't have an Ed cam but my car seems to be making a ton of power, but I haven't pushed it hard yet and I'm also fighting a used Mac longtube header problem right now. I should have gotten a set of BBK longtubes...oh well. I'll beok I guess.

Ya know, I was going to ask you in another thread why you went with AFR 185's and 1 3/4 longtubes. That just seems overkill for a 302 unless you planned on getting a blower or something...

From what I've read lately, people that use 165's and 185's on a 302 end up making around the same #'s, although I bet you lose a bit down low with the 185's in terms of torque and/or throttle response. Plus without the right intake and cam, you may not be pushing enough air up top to take advantage of the higher flow #'s of the 185's because the 165's have adequate flow for a 302 as it is. Hell I've heard of people using 165's on a 347. :)

Regardless of the heads, the 1 3/4 longtubes do seem like overkill. I've heard going too big on exhaust when it's not needed can really hurt you. Why did you go with 1 3/4?

I went with the 185s and 1 3/4 lontubes because I plan to go 331 hopefully by the end of this year or begining of next year. I actually got the longtubes for really cheap from my mechanic. He sold them to me for $100 now I'm seeing that you get what you pay for because they are Mac headers and they were used so they are not lining up good with the bolt holes on my heads. Actually I'm taking a half day off from work today(I'm leaving work as soon as I finish typing this) to go get those headers to fit. I can't afford to buy another set of headers so I HAVE TO get these to fit. But I think my car will perform pretty good. I was expecting a lose on the low end thats why I was thinking about going with a bigger gear like a 3.90.

Ahhhh...I see. Yeah, a steeper gear would definitely help the low end. That does sound like a good price on the headers, but I have heard that used MAC headers sometimes don't fit well. I've never had any problems with mine, even after they've been off and bolted back up again, but then again they've always been on MY car.

Good luck with your fitment problem, and yeah that stuff should work really well with a 331! :nice:

I never heard of a 55cc afr165, i think you mean 58cc which is the one you want.. would put you right at ~9.5:1 C/R.

I've heard of 55cc AFR 165's....in fact, I have a set :D

Of course, you can't exactly "buy" them like this, but now you can say you've at least heard of them ;)
