We went to Fords Innovation Drive in Detroit, Michigan (Belle Isle Island)
and it was a pretty good day, started out walking around looking at the new vehicles, then of course standing in line for the test drive in the Mustang,

which turned out to be driving her on a road course :D
I was very impressed with the cornering for not being lowered,
but the headliner and visors are a very cheap material :notnice:
other then that I liked it alot!

Here is the 2005 Mustang sitting next to our 2000 Cobra R

I then found out that we were going o do a mini on track with our own vehicles :p , so Herb threw me the keys and I got to lead everyone out onto the track...

My first thought was just like above, the Cobra R does look a lot more mean. The '05 Mustang looks like a :taco: cat compared to the prior generation Mustang. I like the new one, but I like my 2000 GT better. :D

-This is exactly why I just bought a Cobra. You would never know that the '05 was the new one. I'm sure its quality but Ford needs to seriously think about sending the old guard to the nursing home.

Not really a fair comparison. You have the ultimate late model Mustang "R" against a stock GT. Lets compare the next Cobra, Cobra R?, then we will see which is meaner. I think the later will blow us all away.

sweeeet pic :)

so which was better on the track, the 05 or the 00 cobra R?

stupid question but hey, what the heck!
Ah, that's Belle Isle Park. The home of the former Detroit Grand Prix CART and Trans Am races. The island is about one mile from downtown Detroit. Now it's just a cruising and picnic spot on the weekends. I wish they still had those races on the schedule though.

Really. Put the 05 GT-R next to the "R" and it blows the 00' away in looks.
But I still love both.

I agree ... even bulky looking.

Still I'm sure it will grow on me .... but the SN95 has me locked. :nice:

Same, I was all jazzed when I saw the concept but the SN95 still is first in my eyes as far as looks are concerned, that's why I went for a Mach instead of holding out for a new '05. Don't get me wrong, I like the 05 but it seems to lack something, like it's begging for different wheels and some tweaks to the body. When I see my car, all I want is tint and different wheels, but when I see the 05 I say it needs different front fascia, ditch those goofy lights in the grill, needs ducktail rear w/ spoiler delete, different hood, and different wheels. Maybe after a couple years Ford will refresh it some and I'll like it more but as is, I think it needs some work, but looks like it's good start from Ford. I think Black and Silver looks much better then that red. :nice:

:flag:

it is bulkier compared to the 99-04's but nothing a set of 1.5" lowering springs and a paint job can fix (not a big fan of that red, to me it makes the car stand out and up, like a spider when threatened.

Let's compare apples to apples, and that's with a crappy hood hack.

Damn !! The Cobra R sure looks freaking amazing on the the side of an stock 05 GT. My eyes would probably be focused on The Cobra. But if they would of put the ... let say ... the GT-R on the side of the Cobra R, now daamn!!
I love the current Mustangs. I was going to get an used 02 Mustang GT, when I saw the 05 concept and I decided to wait a little. When I saw the production car I was a little disapointed and I decided to still go for an 02. It's when I saw the GT-R concept, I said **** it. So I rented an 05 focus(witch is my first car) for 3 years and I'm gonna get a brend new 07 Mustang when it's gonna come out :D .
And I can't wait to see what SVT will do to the car. I f they can come out with a model like the Cobra R in the S197 it would be a winner for sure.
