I would like to put a t-56 in my 1997 GT Convertible when I put the new motor in... How much would it cost to switch it all over... And isnt this something they could change in the ecu on a reflash... How much HP can the cobra 6 speed handle... If I could find one of them... I am looking for a setup to handle over 600 rwhp... turbo setup more than likely...

That should be no problem with the T56 I have heard you shouldn't change over the computer either. That way you wont have a rev limiter to bounce off of. I would guess you would have about $3000.00 in the swap $1500.00 for the tranny/clutch $240-300/Bell housing to mate up $300/ Clutch cable and quadrant $250/ Pedal Assembley $250/ drive shaft $250 then install...maybe over $3000. I would suggest a beefed up automatic that would handle that much power consitantly you would have significantly less $ involved.

Even an automatic installed would be more than that, and it still won't be fun.

If you want a manual but don't want to pay so much, don't buy the most expensive transmission that requires the most labor to install. Just buy a T45 or t3650 (or even a T5) and just drive it until it breaks, then upgrade it with a gforce kit or something. That way you aren't spending a TON upfront, since a NEW T45 for example is only like $500. Then, down the road when you have more money, you can g-force it and have it be 600rwtq capable.

Thats thing... Ill want it done right the first time... I never installed any of my parts cause I want it all done one time! One dyno tune and all.... But I thought if i got a cobra tranny it be able to hold a lot of hp and torque... I saw tranny's that cost like 3 grand and Id rather stay away from that... But yeah if I can find a 5 speed decent ill throw one in it!!! I am considering doing the swap!!!
