washing car with polishing compound

ok guys i know this sounds wierd but i tried it......i have a container of 3M polishing compund, bucket of soapy water and a mocrofiber towel....i used the polishing compunds and basically washed my car with it......damn...it cleaned alot of crap off my paint!!! after i did that i washed my car with soap car wash and a chenille wash mit.......came out good and is ready for polishing and wax!!

anyone else do this before??

If you mixed the rubbing compound with just water and no soapy additives, then all you did was "thin" out the rubbing compound and make it easier to spread. You must keep in mind the rubbing compound has abrasives and polishes that will not break down in simple water.
 
The dude used polishing compound, NOT rubbing compound. Rubbing compound is a lot more aggressive than polishing compound. I don't see a problem as long as others suggested--wash a second time and get the residue off.
 
someone sells a product meant to be used in this way, I think it might be Meguiars, and it's called something like "paint scrub".

jaidedeye, you're saying that washing the car with the compound is more effective than just polishing the car with it as you normally would?

3M stuff is pretty good, its definately something to try, on someone else's car the first time anyway... :D
