Car Cover

Hope this is the place to post this...

Looking for a good car cover for my 02 GT. Need something that is going to last without messing up the paint. The last cover I was a joke. Any suggestions?

What do you plan to use the car cover for? (e.g., snow/rain/sun protection in an outside parking spot, dust/scratch protection in the garage, etc.) There are many different fabric types, some much more expensive than others. Also, some fabrics are less compact than others. I purchased a "Noah" fabric cover to provide bump/scratch protection when stored in my garage (I have 3 kids) and rain/sun/dust protection if I have to park it outside. The only drawback is that it does take up about a 1/4 of my extremely small convertible trunk. As above, I purchased mine from auto anything. Quick shipping and a pretty good price. They should have a custom fit cover based on your needs.

Most of the custom fit covers that will protect from rain will run you in the $150+ range. Make sure the fabric allows your paint/car to breathe. My cover is made of "Noah" fabric from Kimberly Clark. That works good for rain and sun protection. My cover was right around $150.

I just had a show quality paint job put on my 91 GT and we got a Covercraft Cover for it, no scrtaches and sun and rain proof. Got it for right around $140

Does it matter what material a car cover is made of if its just for indoor storage? I am storing the stang this winter in a garage, so I dont need anything special....right?

That depends... If you are concerned with just dust, get a light-weight dust cover. That will be the cheapest and most efficient option. However, if you are like me and you are protecting your car from potential dings/bumps from kids, wife, etc. and you plan to use it outdoors when necessary, then get a heavier weight cover.

I bought a Wolf car cover from Summit for $149, It's custom fit and made of the "noah" fabric. Rained alot last night and the cover is now dry and paint untouched.

Be willing to spend the 100 dollars and instead of getting one car cover, buy 2 cheaper ones. They will outlast and single layer car cover when it comes to protecting it from the elements. If you live in a area that sees a fair deal of rain/snow, then I highly suggest 3 car covers for those times when it hits bad. I currently use two on my car and it works great. I got both combined for about 60 bucks from Wal-Mart. Get a softer one that is good for dust and soft for the surface and use this as your base cover. Then, get a plastic type one to place on top of this. Again, if you live in a area where snow and rain hit bad, have an extra one to throw in between these two. I know this sounds "extreme", but I know it works by experience.

I once purchased a Car cover from Blue Ribbon Car Cover co. that costed 170+ dollars. It wasn't worth a crap and only held up for so long. The rain and snow ended it in one season, at least in terms of not letting watter through. It's also more work to put on 2-3 car covers, but again, its worth the effort. You can always purchase a cheap 2 dollar cargo net bag to store them in if you wish.

My experience with car covers. I have a showroom pretty 91 5.0 LX. I have to keep it outside and had one of the expensive covers. Since i do not drive the car much, it would stay covered for weeks at a time. I began to notice spots on the soft black trim around the doors. After a while i realized it was mold. Once the mold starts it spreads like a slow cancer. I use to have old Mustang's that stayed outside like this but did not have this problem because of the chrome used back in that day. So i built a shed arount the car so that i would not have to use a car cover.

The moral of this story is. on the newer cars, the black soft trim will develope mold if you leave them covered for long periods of time. The expensive covers still allow some moisture to get to the car.
