Check it out -- this eBay auction is fraudulent! How do I know? IT'S FOR ONE OF OUR CARS!!!

I've seen many eBay scams where someone steals someone else's eBay account and posts random pics/description of a car they find on the web, looking to score a big deposit and disappear.

This time they found the pics and description on my dad's shop's site, www.karmustang.com. He of course contacted eBay and they ended the auction.

It was pretty funny, actually. The car has been sold, but it's still at the shop. The guy who bought it was the one who ran across it on eBay! The VIN is there and everything. He called up and was like, "ummmmm, are you selling my car???" :D

LMAO, I just sent the EBAY Hustler this:

I noticed the auction got ended early, do you still have the car? I had the sister to it in highschool right down to the wheels. If it's already sold could I possibly get the new owners info?

Thanx Worth

I'll bet I can buy it cheap :D

Yeah, it's a trip. I've seen a few listings like this that I knew were frauds because I knew the car, bit this is the first time it's been personal.

The last one was a '68 fastback restomod with an actual NASCAR engine in it that sold on eBay for six figures. I remembered it well because I happened to follow the auction since it was a big-ticket Mustang. A couple of months later I saw it listed again -- grainy, low-res versions of the same pictures, the same description (edited a bit to make it less descript) and a "Buy it Now" of $8200. Of course, there was no phone number to call the seller, so I emailed him, feigning interest in the car, and asking how I could buy it. I got this response:

Dear sir,

First of all, I want to thank you that you have interest on my car, and I hope we can have a good deal. With that sayed, let me explain you a few things.
I am located in FRANCE , and the price I expect to get for the car is $8200 US.
Now, before we discuss it any further, you are probably asking yourself why I am selling such a nice car for a low price. The reason for this, I will try to explain it to you, and it is not very easy for me to say it. Our son needs a chirurgical intervence because he has some problems with the heart beats, and we need this money imediately to pay the doctors. With that beeing sayed, I also need to tell you some things about the shipping also. I recently discovered DAS ( dependable auto shippers ) , wich is a very big company and very respected, and it also is recomended by ebay. You will receive the car in 5-7 days at your door, and it will be me who is handling the shipping.
About the car, it is as seend in the description. It is in imaculate condition and has no scratch on and hasn't been involved in any accident. For any other informations wich you are interested about the car, you are welcome to ask, and I will provide you any needed details.
I need the monet first to be sure that you want the car and in order to proceed with shipping and all the aditional export taxes.
Hopefully we can agree on a deal each other, and we will make it as soon as we can, according to my situation.
Looking forward to hear from you soon, and let`s try to have this deal great for us both.

With best wishes and regards,

Xiaoyu Yang.

That one was a keeper! I reported it to eBay and it was taken down immediately.

here's an excerpt from a boss 302 scammmer on ebay that i was messing with. it must be the same person. many of the phrases are very similar:

Hello again,
The price I hope to obtain is $11000 (this price includes the 65% shipping to your door and insurance) and if you agree with this price we can start to complete the transaction. As I've told you,in order to proceed with the deal I need a deposit of $3000.The payment must be done using a money order service.
I'm a fair trader with a very good feedback on ebay which is the proof that I have closed a lot of successful deals.
During this period I learned that the best deals are closed when the risk involved is minimum. You will arrange payment through Western Union. You receive and inspect the vehicle you have to send me the rest of the money. The inspection period for it is 3 days.
I have something safe for you because I want you to be sure that you will receive the vehicle and I hope we will collaborate in the future, too .
Look what I can do for you:
-you will make the transfer to my location but not to my name (you will use your best friends name for example as receiver's name) so you can be sure that I will not pick up the money until you get the car.So you make a deposit at western union and you will give me the transfer's details (SENDER NAME,RECEIVER NAME,MTCN) so I can check that the deposit was made .(this will take a few hours because I can check it on-line )
After I verify it I will send you the car immediately. Only after you will receive the car and check it if it is OK you will have to change the name of the transfer to my name so I can collect my money. So until you will have the vehicle in your hands the money will be deposited on your best friend's name at a Western Union agent.
I think it is better to not inform western union that you will change the receiver's name in a few days because it is possible they ask you to pay the fees twice (fees that are quite big for such an amount) also when you go to an western union office to make the transfer, please don't tell there the reason you send the money because here, in this country I must pay some additional taxes when I receive the funds. Please say you send the money to your friends or to your partner.
My old buyers of course make the transfer at Western Union directly to my name which is easier and I will be happy if you can trust in me but because it is our first deal. I proposed you this very safe and efficient method so you can only deposit the money first and after you get the car to allow me to cash it.
After you've completed the transfer you will receive a confirmation that will allow me to track the transfer.
Here are the details that I need:
-sender name and address
-receiver name will be me
-exact amount wired
-MTCN # (10 digits)
-if it is possible a scanned copy of the receipt format .JPEG for me to add to the files
As soon as the payment will be confirmed and the money properly sent, I will IMMEDIATELY proceed with the shipping .
I will ship the vehicle via Ocean freight insured and It will take 17-20 days until you will have it at your door. The payment is fully refundable if for any reason you do not accept the vehicle or if it has scratches, hidden defects, or it is not as advertised. I will even pay for the shipping back to my location if you reject the vehicle but since it is a state of the machine and works and looks perfectly I think it would get to this. After you check the car and do all the tests with it you must send me the remaining part of the amount.
Here is my name and address you need for the western union transfer:
First name: Denise
Last name: Krook
Address: LUNGOMARE DELLE MEDUSE 31
ZIP: 00040
City: ROMA
Country: ITALY
If you agree with these terms, let me know and I will be more than glad to start and complete the transaction with you. Thank you and I hope that you will have the pleasure to drive this machine.
Kind regards, Denise Krook

Looks like they haven't locked him up yet, I got this in my email:

The truth is, I put this car up for auction because it is a car that I
previously won it from the Yahoo! Warehouse in Los Angeles, CA. However, I
couldn't make the payments so I put it up for auction to enable someone else
to buy and own the car. The only reason I couldn't make the payments was
because I had to send the money by 3 p.m. tomorrow (11-9-04) because it was
a limited offer. I was just buying this car only to re-sell it and make a
profit off of it. So since I can't really do that anymore, I'll copy and
past the emails I've received from yahoo and the seller to let enable you to
still buy the car. The only problem is that there is only a little amount of
time left to send the money. The first email was directly from yahoo, the
second was from the seller re-stating information, and the third one was
from the seller telling stating how much time there is left to pay for the
Mustang. Also, I am only sending this email to the you, the few people who
seemed like serious buyers who are capable of buying the car. Good Luck.
