Did your X pipe get rid of drone?

It's VERY valid when it's your only car and you want to be able to drive it on the Interstate without you ears bleading you fu**ing dry.

If you do not have a helpful answer, stfu.

Look D!KWOD, I only said not to cruz in the drone zone to avoid the drone and agreed with someone else on liking it. So go buy an import so you can have a quiet car. :rlaugh:

thanks....

Gee guys. Thanks for the war.

Anyway. The point of getting rid of the drone is that my car is rattling all over because of it. Things buzz from the sound because they are being vibrated too much. Therefore, I want a quieter exhaust.

If my car didn't buzz, I would't care. I'd probably like it louder.

I have an auto, not a manual. I don't control what RPM I cruise at. I have 4.10s already - someone responded 'get gears'. The gears make 60mph the drone range. I usually drive 60, so... that is my whole point.

For those of you who gave me decent responses, thanks.

I will look up the baffled mufflers mentioned before. They might be a consideration. I think, because of money, I will be using stock mufflers and the catted x.

louder exhaust covers those rattles nicely :nice: catted xpipes and stock mufflers actually sounds pretty good. a guy in my parents neighborhood has it on his cobra and it sounds really good...a little stuffy, but good. Another good combo to try is catted xpipe and magnaflow catback. not too much drone w. the magnaflow. my aunt has magnaflow catback and stock hpipe on her 03 GT and there is a lot less drone than my flowmasters. After you get the catted xpipe on w/ the stock mufflers, if you want louder or a different sound, switch to a magnaflow catback.

Sorry bro, didn't mean to go nutzo on your thread, but that guy needed to stfu after he told us too for giving our input. Granted it wasn't exactly the answer you were looking for, but it was input. heh..heh...

Good luck with your exhaust choice.

On that note, from what I understand....Borla and Magnaflow make the quietest mufflers, but the Bassani baffles may not be a bad idea, if they're as cost effective.

I replaced the 2 chamber Flowmasters that were on my 96 Cobra with Dynomax super turbos because of the drone. Now you guys got me wondering if I should have put Magnaflows on there for quiet and to minimize drone....

The louder my exhaust gets, the louder the buzz gets. It's like war of the noises - good exhaust sound vs. mean, bad rattle.

I am going to try the stock mufflers with the catted X and see how it sounds in the car more than likely. Like I said, I'll try it with the MAC first, and if that still sucks, I'm going to have them put the stocks on immediately. My shop said they'd bolt it all up and I could take it down the road and see how it sounds, then bring it right back and they'll put the stocks on.

Have you ridden in that Cobra you mentioned? How does it drone with stock mufflers and a catted X? Loud, or no drone at all?

All right. :D

Also, someone mentioned magnaflows being quiet. Yeah, they are. They are really quiet. In my car, they were quieter than stock when cruising. I would've kept them on had I known I was going catted X later. It probably would've been the perfect matchup. :( With the stock H, Magnaflows are very quiet. The only time you will hear them at all is at the 2000rpm range. Slight drone - very slight. They are supposed to make really good power though!

Just curious Red03, do you remeber what model of Magnaflows you were using? Were they XL's? What length were they? I'm probably going with a set on my Cougar, but I want the quietest ones possible. I'm sick of the noise and to tell you the truth, would rather hear the whine of my blower over the drone of the exhaust. :D

If I recal, the Dynomax have been regarded as one of the quieter set-ups as well. I don't think you made a bad decision. How does it sound with the Dynomax on it?

There is a slight drone at around 2100 rpms, but nothing like the Flows had. I bought the car about a 4 hour drive away from where I live, and the drive home was unbearable. Interestingly the drone is louder in the drivers seat than on the passengers side. This car is also a convertible, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

It just means that you're hard of hearing in your left ear. :D

I am not sure of the model.

No, I'm not sure. All I know for sure is that they were Magnaflows, not Magnapacks. I knew the packs would be loud.

At the time that I put those on, I was looking for an exhaust that was louder than stock, but still bearable. I'd have to say those Magnaflows were pretty awesome. To me, they have a unique sound that nothing else is similar to - at least not anything I've ever heard. They have more of a big purr than a roar (unless you step on it). They are louder outside of the car than inside, and that's what was good about them.

Then, I decided I wanted really loud. I got tired of the Magnas. So I got this MAC catback that is on my car now.

It sounds great, I think. It's got a really good rumble, and the outside loudness is cool. For the first 3 weeks or so, it was really great. Then that infernal buzzing started, and has slowly gotten worse and worse. Something is rattling somewhere, and I just can't find it even after taking the rear interior apart. So I'm fed up at this point.

I decided to go with a quieter, more euro-purr kind of sound. I'm thinking the catted X and stock mufflers will give me that. The setup should be getting on there Wednesday morning. I'll let you guys know what it is like, finally! :nice:

When I had my Dr. Gas it droned like crazy!
Threw back on the Stocker H, and drone was minimized.
I dynamated my trunk and it made a big difference!
How much of your trunk did you Dynomat? With my current setup, there are times when the change in my rubber cupholder starts rattling, which is the only gripe I have with drone. In the near future I am planning on an x-pipe, but at the same time I don't want the inside to get too loud (lookin' out for the dates in the car). I had thought of Dynomat in the past, but I didn't know how much of a difference it would make. Is it really that much better?

Also, I've noticed the drone being worse with the windows all the way up. Try cracking the driver's window an inch or so, and see if that helps. Accoustically it makes sense (interior exhaust has no where to go with the windows up. It's like porting a speaker box).

You are right about the window thing. I can lower my window and I won't hear the rattle, or if I do, it is very slight. I couldn't tell if it was because the wind was in my ear what. :D

I too wonder about Dynomat. If the trunk is quietened, will that help considerably, or just a little?

Put dynamat on the floor of the trunk and under the rear seats, should make a pretty big difference.
An X-Pipe should drone less than an H-Pipe (i don't buy the whole "going out the back" thing, an X-Pipe is just not as deep and tends to smooth out more so there will naturally be less drone) I doubt it's much of a difference though.

I have a Prochamber and Flows, it's not bad at all. When im riding with a passanger it sounds SO much louder though, you don't really notice it until you try to have a conversation with someone with the windows up.
