Rearend Worries

I recently was driving my 95 cobra on the interstate. When I got off the exit, I began hearing a sort of gear howl which has not gone away since. I got under the car once I got home and checked the differential and transmission fluids, and the rearend was just slightly low so I filled it up (about 1/4 quart), the transmission was fine. The noise still is there and only happens when the clutch is engaged (goes away when you push the clutch in). It is there in all gears at all RPM's. I have been told this may be the pinion bearing in the rearend? I need to know if anyone else has had this problem, cuz until I get it fixed, it is not driveable. p.s. this is not a whisper, it is a very loud howling.

I have had both a truck and a car with noisy bearings in the clutch. I'm thinking it could be that. You'd expect to hear gear noise only under acceleration unless something is seriously messed up.

I would have it checked by a clutch shop to see what they think.
